I can’t remember how much they cost back then... but seems like a tactic by the large corporations to drive demand up, thus price.

Same thing happened with Johnnie Walker Green Label, discontinued out of nowhere, everyone looking for one when they “re-released” it in limited markets and finally back as regular stock at a higher price.
