So the septic system has decided to give warning this time before becoming a complete disaster (last time resulted in replacing the bathroom downstairs ) . For those of you who know, blackwater coming out the overflow of the tank... In the enzyme booster goes...
So today I’m surfing coffeeshops while the bacteria have a chance to see if they can make a difference...

Clogged caca pipe, or low bacteria levels?

Two things I do not miss about living out in the country, septic tanks and wells. If I NEVER take the lid off from another septic tank it will be too soon.

I’m fortunate that I have city water, but unfortunate that I have no city sewer.

Don’t know. I haven’t been good about putting bacteria boosters in on a regular basis, so I’m trying that first before getting to the point of having someone dig up my front yard (yes, some fool put it in the front yard) to see if the branch box and leach lines are clogged/plugged with dirt.
Knowing how much nonsense is in this house already, it wouldn’t surprise me if the leach lines weren’t surrounded with gravel on bottom _and_ top.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the tank was installed cheaply or poorly and it’s a construction problem. I don’t see why a shit pipe would get clogged, especially if it isn’t that old of an installation.

Sorry mate but that’s a poorly designed septic system (since it should have had a bypass on it) and an almost certainly clogged leach pit.
We are not far off going back to a septic system and I will be rebuilding it into a worm farm system like at our last house. Slightly more complicated inoperation as it needs power but so much easier to deal with and excellent water recovery for irrigation.

I’m in the same boat. As a bonus the road I live on has city sewer. If my septic has any problems it’ll have to be removed and the house connected to the sanitary sewer.

30 years old, the system is . But still, they aren’t complicated...

Apparently its bypass is the overflow (because that’s just how things were done in the 80s in the US....shittily. ). Since it’s a septic tank and not a cesspool type, the leach lines should have been surrounded by gravel and then dirt, to prevent them from clogging off the branch box.
I’ll bet they forgot the gravel on top. Probably on purpose because the house is in an area where they were put up cheaply.

No septic was one of my requirements when I bought my place. I could have had a much bigger and nicer house on a much bigger lot for the money, but it wasn’t worth the hassle. About half of all septic tanks fail certification in this state when properties change hands, as a result of a high water table and very loosely written regulations regarding what constitutes failure, leaving much of it up to the discretion of the guy doing the inspection (who, invariably also installs new septic systems). And good luck getting the seller to replace it. Most of the time, they know full well its going to fail, and its on you if you want the property.
