Continuing my efforts to help you, my friends, enjoy your Netflix subscriptions and avoid the crappy stuff.

Set It Up

This one is pretty good. A good cast, good dialog between characters, and just enough zaniness that reminds me of The Secret of My Success to pull it together. I give it 3 out 5. 3.5 if I’ve been drinking.

Ibiza

This one sucks worse than the deepest, darkest black hole. Avoid it at all costs. I’m not sure how my TV didn’t kill itself in despair to escape having to present it to me, even on fast-forward. Weak plot, poor characters, no chemistry, stupid ending. I give it a minus eleventy-billion out of 5. Those are neurons I’ll never get back, but maybe I can kill them by drinking heavily.

My wife and I watched Set It Up last weekend. I enjoyed it. Sometimes a nice simple movie that is easy to watch is all I want and Set It Up delivered that.

Precisely.  And a feel-good ending.  Somedays, a happy ending lightens my day.

Agreed, Set It Up was just a pleasant little movie. Haha, glad I haven’t bothered watching Ibiza yet

Romantic comedies are (literally) the crossover SUV of movies. Not really good at anything, but people ( especially young women) can’t seem to get enough. They’re cheap, extraordinarily predictable and rarely memorable. The best you can hope for is a comfortable seat and air conditioning while you wait for the ride to end.

I didn’t know that Zoey Deutch was Leah Thompson’s daughter until I heard Thompson on a radio interview mentioning this movie, and another that she was in, and producing a movie that Thompson, Zoey and sister Madeline? Deutch are all in together. Watched “Set it Up” , and it was pretty good. Not exactly ground- breakingly original, but a pleasant movie to watch.

The spouse and I enjoy Elementary, and Lucy Liu is pretty much always a very good bet, if she’s involved.

I didn’t know that either. Well, the apple didn’t fall far from the t ree then. Mom and daughter are both talented and beautiful.

You’ll like it better. I mean, this is  a low bar, but at least you won’t want to carve out a piece of your frontal lobe with a spoon just so you can forget it.
