I’m not a fan of Land Rovers in general but I’d probably take almost any car in that shade of orange.

Of all the vehicles to take hundreds of miles away from civilization or whatever, it seems so strange to me that people pick these basket cases. I love them dearly, but come on.

Actually a good friend of mine is doing exactly that. He’s living out of a Disco 1 and exploring North America. It’s decent overland build with properly done off road mods, rooftop tent, interior replaced with kitchen/gear etc . It has certainly been a money pit and it’s spent time in shops across North America but despite drinking oil and using alternaters like they’re a consumables it always makes it through, even though sometimes rather in tatters. It’s taken him over 100 miles once with an unintended wet clutch and not enough tranny fluid when the input shaft seal failed.
That said if I spent $ 5-10k on outfitting pop-top off-road shell for my Tacoma I’d have a more capable, just as livable and way more reliable vehicle for similar money to what I have to imagine he’s into that for. But fuck if it isn’t a million times cooler.
