On weekends that I a m not out driving or paintballing, I would grab my DSLR and explore my city on foot. I would plan to explore a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or a specific landmark, but for some reason or another I always bring back few pictures of cars as well. Weird how that works....
Here is the car-related collection from yesterday’s trek.
3rd-gen Mazda6
Land Rover Range Rover Velar
Mercedes-AMG GT S
Normally a white Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 does not warrant a picture... there are probably more of them here than Toyota Camrys... the house it is parked in front of, though, is assessed by the city to be worth $11,483,000
Victory Motorcycle + the front fascia of a Mercedes-Benz S-class (W221) = lots of chrome in this picture

Good pictures! Loge the GTS. Although I can’t say I’ve ever seen someone “spot” a bone-stock Mazda6 before.

I mostly look for architecture, because due to our getting-insane land values, old homes are getting torn down at alarming rates... so I want to keep a record. Such as this, from the same album:
However, sometimes cars get into the frame, and this is Oppo, so.... :-P
Sometimes I get interesting cars. Sometimes I get interesting neighbourhoods. Sometimes, both. Sometimes, neither. C ’est la vie!

I’m not sure what it is called! I just headed west on 57th Avenue to the end, to visit the Shannon Estate :
Kerrisdale is to the north, Marpole to the south and east, while Southlands is to the south and west, so... dunno, lol :-P

One of our specific housing issue is that, due to escalating land prices, homes are now assessed and taxed using values many times more than what the owners paid for back in the day.
So, the property values do not reflect the owners’ actual financial situation, and they derive no benefit from such valuation until they sell. And, if they sell, they are then essentially driven out of the city, because every other property have gone up as well, so even with the “windfall” they cannot afford anything else .
That $11.5mil one, though, is a new built... so yeah, no excuse there lol

No exemptions? My grandma’s house is worth dozens of times the original purchase price, but as she is in her 90s, she’s not high income, so she pays a minimal rate.
That being said, what I feel for those who hit the real estate lottery around Seattle (not as bad as Van, but trying hard) can be compared to the world’s smallest violin. People who bought when it was attainable for normal working people and now have high 6 or even 7 figures (USD) via luck don’t earn my pity.
I know a lot of property there (and here), especially relatively modern builds, are money laundering/residency purchasing vehicles, where the owners might either not care about tax, or find a loophole to avoid it.

I’m really glad you’re getting pictures of older houses and buildings. I keep meaning to do the same thing, but I haven’t done much at all yet. I wish I’d taken more pictures around Chinatown and Powell before things started really changing. I usually poke around the more industrial areas, so I have some good stuff around Strathcona, north of Hastings, and near V enables and Parker-ish
