This is the church I designed that we broke broke ground on yesterday, and a news clip that aired last night.

And here’s the news clip:

I’m the guy in the red shirt standing in the background of the interview with the Bishop.

Honestly, the interior is the best part of this project and I don’t really have a good rendering of it. I’m excited to see it get out of the ground.

That’s got to feel pretty good to see it starting.  Do you specialize in churches or something like that?

Civic Architecture, we specialize in schools. I’m working on 3-4 of them at any given time.

Most of my work (Architecture) is done with ADW and various Catholic related projects around D.C. It’s always fun seeing a project start construction, and very rewarding when it’s finally completed and opened. Congrats !

Kind of a new avenue for us, we have done some churches in the past, but never any catholic ones. Add to that that none of the design team is catholic and it’s been quite the learning experience.

I always prefer the look of a traditional apse from the outside, too bad a lot of modern churches eliminate it, but you worked it in.

Yeah, I thought it added a lot of personality to the exterior, and it’ll get a metal roof while the rest of the church gets a composite slate. It’s actually the adoration chapel for the church and is only really accessible to the public from the outside, so it can be open 24/7.
