“People will set aside for a moment their moral beliefs, their religious
beliefs, to get
somebody that is honest in office,” he said. “Trump is
the trailblazer, he is the Christopher Columbus of honest politics.”
“It’s more important for evangelical voters that Trump is fighting for
an idealized, white Christian, conservative America,” said Dan Cox,
research director at the Public Religion Research Institute, a
nonpartisan organization that researches the intersection of religion,
culture and public policy. “Tribal values now supersede personal
morality as an animating force.”

Maybe it’s because I live in a different country but evangelicals here tend to be against
classicism even if a bit socially conservative... not that shitshow in America. Something leads me to believe that the truly religious in America would suffer seeing a man as such win an election under the guise of the religious vote.

Yeah, but those people believe that they are the ones that are “truly religious”.
Most of the ones that I have met are flaming hypocrites who seem to be trying to rationalize what shitty human beings they are via tearing down others.

My theory is that people that are actually religious and read their holy documents and history, and are spiritual behave little like this.

Well it’s actually using religion to tear down others, so neither of us is wrong.
They tend to over focus on the “literal” interpretation of the Bible (which is an oxymoron) and twisting verses to suit their needs, while ignoring those that don’t, so they can claim to be more pious. For example, the recent abuses by Sessions and others to justify their shitty immigration policy.

The biblical literalists frequently have different translations. In the religion I subscribe to, we use the King James. Last night, I had a lengthy comparative religion discussion with my cousin. Greatly satisfying it was, as rather than try to win a debate, we respectfully asked each other questions about how certain aspects of our (Christian) faiths compared. Considering those differences can do much to put your own beliefs in illuminating relief.
Much of the differences between human tribes and cultures stems from folks’ images of God. Many see and worship their god as a vengeful, angry, punishing deity. I view God as a just, supportive, encouraging father who knows me and wants me to do constructive and helpful things.
I see the evangelicals in the Reuters story as a people whose cups are half empty, rather than half full.

See the excerpt that I quoted about the White Christian conservative America. What I find absurd and laughable is the insecurity felt by the White nationalists. Absurd, laughable and an extremely dangerous threat to an open, free thinking democratic society.

Yes, I fully expect Trump to get re- e lected. Pe ople like this who have no ability to distinguish between reality and whatever world Trump has created for them will vote for him again. I highly doubt there is anything anyone can do to change their minds because they see Trump as the only real authority and everyone else as liars.

I see the larger obstacle as this: Trump is so far outside normative social more that the rest of us who place stock in being constructive and caring and civil have zero idea how to combat him. The DNC has no clue what to do.

Definitely not bashing teachers, just the system. Teachers should be paid and respected m ay more IMO.
Again IMO if critical thinking was taught from a young age we could have avoided most of the fake news, flat Earth, global warming is fake, conspiracy theories and everything else that is clogging people’s minds and led to the Cheeto getting elected.

I did not take your comment as a bash. Just lemme put that out there.
Teachers should be paid and respected may more IMO.
I could write 2,000 words on this, but I will spare you. Let this suffice: teachers are paid on a matrix that rewards seniority and post graduate schooling. Districts vary: some will pay extra for classes in basket weaving while others will pay extra only for a graduate degree. But it’s the same: more school, more pay; more years, more pay. My annual salary is currently $104k/yr, which is pretty good, and much higher than a teacher in Washington State or Kentucky (I’m in California). But I also have to pay 100% of my healthcare benefits out of that amount. Last I checked, that was about $19k/yr in premiums ( ! ). Because Summer vacation, I’ve been able to load my family in the Family Truckster and drive to the Atlantic ocean for a swim. Three times. Nobody with a “real job” can do that at any salary level.
As well: because union, the guy with the degree in History gets paid exactly the same as the guy with the degree in Mathematics or Physics. Very much not like the real world. And the guy who phones it in each day and is bad for kids and bad for families can’t be fired unless he boffs a child in the classroom and even then, maybe not, because union.
And what I truly resent is the union inculcating its membership with the idea that they are
entitled
to a raise without having to make any meaningful defense of
why.
But I digress.

Oh, so like $37 after cost of living.
And the guy who phones it in each day and is bad for kids and bad for families can’t be fired unless he boffs a child in the classroom and even then, maybe not, because union.
This IMO is a yuuuge problem if teachers don’t give a damn about their students, the students just have a bad teacher and there is very little that can be done about it.
Most schools districts outside of high-income areas just don’t have enough money to properly teach their students. This IMO is probably the biggest problem we have and every jackass who is like “lower taxes” doesn’t realize education is going to be one of the first things to suffer. Obviously, there is no way to equalize the outcome of all students, but if we could somehow figure out how to make sure they all get the same (high) quality of education to get them started in life I am pretty sure we are only a generation or two away from the drooling masses that think the earth is flat.
Also, fuck Betsy DeVos.
BTW, I am not completely talking out of my ass, my Mom is a recently retired teacher that still subs occasionally and I spent quite a bit of time researching becoming a teacher before I went back to school and got a degree in business.

It’s all good, Bro.
To you point, not being prepared to teach kids effectively is only part of the problem because kids are not prepared to learn. Issues aplenty to go around. But teacher unions are generally a bad thing because unions
take a class of college educated employees and reduces them to a rabble of wage slaves with no career path. A plumbers’ or a carpenters’ union, or a union of teamsters is one thing; teachers -- or nurses, same exact thing -- something else.
