As the Maryland primary elections approach , I’ve been getting a bunch of local political ads. A lot of the democratic primary elections are the real contests for offices (NEENER NEENER GOP’ERS). At first it was the more well-funded operations putting videos on facebook, but now, there’s this. It’s kinda awesome?

He’s all nerd-excited about imposing extra regulatory hurdles on a fancy “new urbanism” development with apartments, shops, a Wegman’s, and a park, that’s near a subway station, and replacing a bunch of old strip mall type buildings that include Fuddruckers. People get fired up about zoning laws around here, I tell you what.
This place is like a half mile from my house. I’m excited about the Wegman’s. We have tons of grocery stores here but I end up going to 4 different places to get the stuff on my list at reasonable prices.

Sorry. My ingrained and deeply seated bias was showing...
Every year Alexandria celebrates it’s birthday - it’s a few days after the 4th of July - and they have a small festival with bands and food and beer. At the end of the celebration they fire off a bunch of cannons towards the river. The crowd, fully fortified by cheap beer and even cheaper hot dogs, yells “Fuck Maryland!” in unison. It’s really quite charming.

Truer words have never been spoken, my friend. Rockville and the surrounding areas are nice! I think were the cannons to be aimed slightly to the north they would hit the Blue Plains sewage treatment plant... A little to the south and they would blow up MGM Grand.

Well obviously, it’s the wealthiest county, per capita, in the state. You put the casinos in the areas that are poor.
