There used to be a time when I could grok integrations and could step through a Matlab differential approximation algorithm in my head. Nowadays, though, my brain says “LOL FU” at the thought and I get distracted by the next Oppo post .

Man, I don’t envy you. The most I had to do was “Business Calculus” (aside from some stats classes that weren’t bad) 20 years ago now, and that wasn’t a fun ride. I remember saving cheatsheets into my TI-85, the prof didn’t care, he was of the school of thought that in the real world, you’d look stuff up anyway.

How did you do?

I suck at linear algebra and my teacher isn’t the brightest at it (she confused the orientation of the A=LU equation) so I’d be happy with a passing grade

Calc, my teacher used to be cool about us using our graphing calcs, but yesterday one of my classmates made him very upset, so we couldn’t use our graphing calculators and I don’t know the integral and derivative rules by heart, so I had to study them yesterday, I’d be happy with a 7/10

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of the “remeber this or else!” Method either. We normally use our graphig calcs but it was forbidden for these two exams.

Hopefully I learn all the quriks and features of my ti nspire and that way It’ll be the one suffering.

Oof absolutely fuck linear algebra lol. So far that’s the only class I’ve had to retake and I’m still a bit bitter about it. M y first professor was ridiculous. I had, no lie, 500+ notecards for definitions and theorems that I had to “know precisely”. I’m so happy to be done with that. Calc 2 and linear back to back sounds terrible though. Hopefully you can take a break now.  I’m an hour away from a fluid mechanics exam myself and can’t wait for a break until my next exam Monday.

I think my biggest issue is that teachers sometimes feel that they need to judge all your skills even if it isn’t a part of the course .

Like, I’m a bit dyslexic, but I can find L and U of A... yet other equations (when I need to carry out numbers for a long sequence) I mess up easily... same is with calc sometimes. So I get very stressed out at exams and check my answers multiple times. In the end the formulas are OK, the headwork that would normally be relegated to a calculator is my issue.

But I know that’s a noticable handicap (they talk of “ingenieros de calculadora” as an insult in my neck of the woods) and I need to work on it.

Very true. At my school, for every math class I took, we had to have at least one writing project in it so they felt the need to judge our writing skills in a math class. As if we don’t get enough practice with writing in the sciences in all the labs we have to take.

I mean, I mess up the long equations too so I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself! There are so many ways to get those messed up. We also couldn’t use a calculator until Calc 3 and what helped me with that was doing homework without a calculator (as much as you can, obviously) just to get used to it in a less stressful environment. I also don’t know if your school has something similar, but we have an office for students with disabilities and if you talk to them, you’d maybe be able to get more time, if that’d help.
