"DaftRyosuke - So Long and Thanks for All the Fish!" (daft-ryosuke)

In a rather sudden turn of events, Chevrolet decided to reveal the all-new 2019 Blazer, their contender for the sporty mid-sized CUV market dominated by the Toyota CH-R and the controversial new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
Not much has been revealed so far about the new Blazer, besides the fact that it is apparently based upon the Acadia/Traverse, and will feature power from a 2.5 liter I4 and GM’s 3.6L V6, which means that 300 horsepower is optional, kind of a first for this category.
The styling on this new Blazer is bound to be controversial, as all crossovers are. It definitely takes a lot of cues from the trends of today. I, however, kind of like it, as I think big grilles like these work best on CUVs (NOT THE CAMARO). I think it’s a logical evolution for the Blazer nameplate, as is the new Cherokee, and the only thing it’s really missing is a two-door option for me.
Either way, the new Blazers will hit dealers in 2019 and will probably become an immediate hit.

I wonder if the RS sport trim will only be available with the anemic 2.5 like it is on the traverse

Meh. I continue feeling sadder and sadder about the death of cars with the annoying onslaug
ht of ‘they-all-
look-pretty-much-the-same’ crossovers...

I think GM should’ve made the Blazer an enthusiast
special; an enlarged Camaro chasis, a v8, and RWD or AWD with some clever diffs.
BUT NO, IT HAD TO BE AN XT5 IN DRAG.

Good question.
I wonder if we’ll get an SS version with the TT3.6

Will it replace the Trax or will GM keep that sad sack potato around for rental fleets?

Nah, that’s a fact. The Silverado is awful. The Camaro is awful. They made the Cruze worse. They made the Malibu worse. They killed the Impala. The Bolt and Volt are both great cars, but are a bit homely.

I’ll agree with you on the Camaro, but the Silverado isn’t even that bad. The Cruze is very meh. The Malibu is quite attractive. Big cars aren’t in at the moment.

The Silverado is hands down the ugliest vehicle produced since the Multipla. The Malibu was bad before, now they made it worse.

Check your segments—the CH-R and Eclipse Cross are Trax and HR-V sized!

Some changes to the Trax would be nice. Namely a less anemic power-plant and interior design that doesn’t completely suck.

The only two things GM makes nowadays that are relevant and good are the LS motors and their magnaride thingy.
When they killed the SS, GM was dead to me.

That’s a wise outlook to have.
I’ve learned to expect stolen styling cues and lookalikes from this segment long ago. Now I just look to see how manufacturers implement them.

Not bad looking. The Camaro-like nose actually looks good here. It’s kinda got that ‘concept car for the streets’ style to it, and I applaud them for not making something bland.
One thing, though...you mention the mid-size class, but...the Eclipse Cross is a compact and the CH-R is subcompact.
Toyota’s mid-sizer is the Highlander, and Mitsubishi doesn’t have one in the US, since the largest one they sell here, the Outlander, is categorized as a compact, like the Equinox and RAV4.

Hey! I’ve got an idea! Let’s resurrect another dead popular model name and slap it on the back of another CUV! These idiots will have no idea that the new car has NOTHING to do with the old car. Great success!

To be fair, most of the standard automobile market is one manufacturer taking someone else’s design language and warping it to fit theirs.
Sell your car based on the bleepbloops on the inside, and never the exterior.
