That’s an interesting move, I’m wondering if they’ll get any takers for it

You guys stopped getting the Accord as well, right?

It seems to have shrunk down  to Avensis size lately, so this sort of makes sense.

Different Accord to yours and yes, dropped ages ago. Lack of sales.

I had to google it, but it was discontinued in 2015.

A few words of explanation.

The Camry was dropped from Europe in 2004 due to having become too big, too bland, too American and no diesel.

It hasn’t changed much since but as the Avensis (one size down) has suffered from the trend away from three box cars and been dropped Toyota want to see if they can replace it and the Camry came to mind. It’s being sold only as a hybrid to get over the lack of diesel.

It’ll sell in its tens.

Not surprising, considering the UK already is getting the Camry’s nicer cousin, the Lexus ES.

Yeah, we did get it here as the Acura TSX. It was essentially identical to the Accord  2.4i Executive. (I have one.)

Very likely, given it being not only RHD, but also the fact that the Camry is only sold in Japan as a hybrid, just as it will be in the UK.

I think at this point, the only RHD market where the Camry will be offered in non-hybrid form is Australia and New Zealand, where it’s offered with practically the same engine range as the US: 2.5 I4 gas, 2.5 I4 hybrid, 3.5 V6 gas.

It will probably outsell the MG6, at least.

We’re getting it too, in continental Europe. T o replace the Avensis, and hybrid-only as well. No wagon (I presume), no diesel.

Like Cé hé sin commented elsewhere, it will sell in tens. Unless the taxi market considers them attractive I guess. The lease crowd will probably avoid it as the plague and private buyers in this segment are scarce and probably won’t go for it either.

Cars in this (shrinking) segment tend to be bought as diesel wagons. The Avensis sales have shrunken to close to zero, so that that they want to save costs by introducing a ‘world car’ makes some sense. However, not having a wagon and having (I suspect) driving characteristics and interior quality intended for the US market won’t do it any favors. In Europe, buyers in this segment expect something with characteristics like the (EU) Passat or your Buick Regal (wagon).

I expect low sales like that as well, as it’s just too big, and a sedan. Maybe I’ll see some as taxis here in Eindhoven, as the most popular taxi here is the Toyota Avensis, for some unexplicable reason.

If Toyota would make a wagon (including the twin rear wipers) that could make it a slightly  bigger seller, though.

I’ve heard the newer Camries are much better on the driving dynamics front, but the Japanese (US market) have always been VERY averse to wagons for some reason. There are so many Japanese cars I would have considered over the years, but my last (and only) sedan was 1998 and I kept it for over 10 years, for better or worse. Ever since I saw the light, I have no idea how anyone buys a sedan (apart from niches like huge luxury cars or stylized CLS/CC/A7 cars)
