Should I buy a Corvette interior or another car?

You might not believe it but my scruffy Corvette is mechanically done. From steering linkage to turn signals, there are no more wrenches left to turn on it. it runs, stops, steers, and goes without any issues. One of the last things to do now is the interior and oh my it’s expensive.

Seats will cost me a full $2,000 CDN and door panels are another easy $1,000. I’m just wondering if I’ll really get $3k of enjoyment from having a nice interior in it. So I’m window shopping at getting a small sports car like a GT6, MG, or Midget.

What do you guys think?

PS. I’m not painting it for a very long time

i have ripped seats in my vette. Ask me if I want to spend that much on replacement seats? You ask? I answer - Answer is no.

Between targa top leaking, and shifter being an asshole even with short shifter installed.

Piece of crap. I really hate this car.

As the owner of a hooptie Camaro I fully endorse skipping the cosmetic interior stuff until you really get the itch to do it, but this fine constable would disagree.

On cars I’ve had that needed interior work, it was always money very well spent. The interior is your most direct interaction with the car, and a nice one is such a good place to spend time.

Are the headlights fixed yet?

Have you looked into just getting the seats re- covered? Should be much cheaper.

Most of the corvette interior parts from the various corvette parts sellers are made by them. Their warehouse is seriously cool to wander through. On a related note, they also made the replacement seat cover for me for the seat in the racecar last year, which means my old improved touring Acura Integra racecar happens to have a race seat upholstered with the correct fabric for  a 56 vette with a red interior.

This is an important question . Look into seat “rebuild” kits first before sinking major change into brand new seats that could get scuffed during installation anyway.

If you want a car with a nice interior, do this one.  If you don’t care much about interiors, don’t do anything.  That’s my view.

If it is just a seam coming apart or a panel or two of leather on the bolsters that has worn through, a local upholstery shop can fix that for you for not a whole lot of money. This is even more so if you don’t have to a truly perfect match on the material and can pay cash without the need for a receipt . I’ve never spent more than a hundred or two to have that kind of minor upholstery repair done.

Gotcha. I’m sure it will look great once it is done but then I’d be worried about ruining them . If it coincides with your plans for the car, which it sound likes it does , go for it.

yeah. once i get the roof to stop leaking on the seats, i will turn my attention to seats... for now, I want to burn this car and not even report the loss. One less corvette. This shit never happens on japanese cars.. why? WHY?

I certainly had to replace some dried out, old weather stripping on mine. A 90's or 00's GM fiberglass bodied, big-boy sports car will certainly never be mistaken for Japanese build quality.

I think the current state of the interior goes along nicely with the outside of the exterior. I’m worried a new interior would clash with the overall look of the car. Maybe fix what needs to be fixed, and keep the rest of the interior like it is?

However, on the other hand, it’s the part where you spend most time, so it might be worth it to make it nicer, if you value looking at a nice interior.

big boy sports cars should act it. Things like weather stripping should not be a) leaking after few years and b) shouldn’t cost an arm, let and first born. Check the prices for a c5 targa top weatherstripping. Ridiculous price to pay for a piece of rubber. I’ll wrap this car in condoms and it will be cheaper.

If you’re not painting it, or not planning to keep it for a long time I wouldn’t bother. Without a paint job, redoing the interior is not goin g to add much value to the car. If you plan to keep i t for 10 y ears, then maybe it’s worth it for the enjoyment factor you'll get over the years.

I don’t doubt you on the prices. It was around four hundred dollars for all the bits that made up the   targa weather stripping on my C4 (if you went with the correct, rubberized surface over foam , OEM material that actually sealed and not the much cheaper rubber aftermarket replacements that may or may not ever seal).

Y ou’ve got a C5 right? The newest of them are 14 years old, which makes them all a legitimately old car.   From that same vintage, I also replaced lots of dried up rubber seals, weather stripping and vinyl on my E39 and 99 miata . I always considered it pretty normal old car stuff.
