Just found this beauty for sale. It’s only $150 but mention the splines that connect the the crank to the belt pulley are warn off.

Does this mean it needs a new crank or are the splines a separate piece? Worth looking at it, or a sign of other more serious issues?

That’s not worth $150.

There are some splines on the one side of the crank, so guessing it’s part of the crank? Parts and disassembly of the engine would probably be pretty straightforward?

http://scootermasters.com/manuals/Elite_SA50_Service_Manual.pdf

Pg. 85 is the section on the crankshaft, although the engine would have to be removed to get to it.

Thank you very much. I figured on something that small it was probably part of the crank as opposed to something bolted to a flange.

I’m going to contact the seller and shop around for parts just Incase. I can’t imagine the disassembly being too difficult.

Hmm, if I’m already pulling the motor I may consider a big bore kit if they’re available.

It seems that the crankshaft has a Woodruff key on the output instead of a spline.

They are most definitely available!

Download that Service Manual I linked as well as it may come in handy!

I’m enough of a dork that even if I don’t get the scooter I’ll enjoy looking at the repair manual.

You may have to make a crank call. Ha.

Thanks, I left a message for the seller and am parts shopping while I wait for the call that it’s already sold.

Hopefully that call arrives before you have to fork over for the RMA shipping.

That’s a lotta chedda for a scooter that needs the engine pulled apart. These can be had in complete working order for $500.

Where do you keep finding cheap scooters? By me even non running Chinese scooters typically sell for that much or more.

The cheapest currently running Elite in my area on Craigslist is $950.

Really? That’s crazy. I find them on FB Marketplace, on CL. I just sold a running Elite 80 for $375, and more than doubled my money.
