Was on my way to work when a wheel decided to no longer stay attached to its vehicle going the other way. The runaway wheel hopped a median and struck my car. From there the wheel still had a taste for blood. It rolled back across the median and struck another car whose driver was an off duty cop. The guy at fault for all this didn’t have a license and the car wasn’t even his so this is going to be interesting. Luckily this whole thing doesn’t seem to have caused mechanical damage but my insurance is sending someone out to get the full extent. Cosmetically it has one hell of a bruise. I caught it all on my dashcam too so at least I have that.

It didn’t go through your windshield and decapitate you, which is nice.

Upload the clip, sounds cool, like something out of a Russian dashcam video. These days, that’s not far off.

Yeah, honestly considering the other outcomes for this scenario, it’s a great way to start the day.

Same happened to a friend of mines mom years ago. Was a truck tire on I80-94, totalled their Thunderbird but they were ok.

That is definitely a positive so far. It would have been really nice if it never happened at all though...

Bummer, my wife was in an accident last night that tore off the bumper of our 328 (everyone is ok). There must be a BMW bumper supplier out there that needs to make a quota.

True, it just sucks because if I had just one lane to my left I could have avoided it. Trying to keep positive about it. Probably will just work a bit on my Mustang a bit. Need some stuff to get fixed to help offset what was just broken.

Over the past two months my dashcam has caught a lot of stuff. The drivers on Long Island suck something awful. I had quite a streak of avoiding the craziness until today.

I’m sorry it happened, I’d be upset too. But the import thing is that you’re OK. You BMW will be right as rain soon.

Damn, that’s pretty sucky. Looking at the positive side, good thing it was you and not some guy on a motorcycle. That could have been catastrophic.

Without a doubt. The fact that the car without a wheel didn’t inflict further damage on the cars surrounding it is also a blessing. I have looked at the car a bit more and I am sure it will be fine as most of what is broken is plastic. I just lament that I am going to be without that car for a few days. I usually miss it when I am separated from it for even a day.

There probably wouldn’t have been much left of the guy. My car was “lucky” enough to have the contact happen when the wheel was close to the ground

It could of been a lot worse if it made impact just 1 ft higher.

Accidents happen though usually not this catastrophically. I was fortunate to have the impact happen when the tire was almost on the ground. Just glad the airbags didn’t go off and that there was no unusual noises or shakes when I limped it home.

Man, that had to be terrifying. Glad you are okay.

I got hit in the windshield by a piece of flying debris out of a truck and it scared me badly enough that I had to pull off the road and get out of the car and go sit down. The noise alone must have been scary.

Funny thing is I was weirdly calm throughout the whole thing. I was really angry that it happened to me but I didn’t freak out or even curse. It felt more surreal than anything.

Get out while you can and if possible take me with you lol. Seriously, I’ve lived here all my life but I almost can’t stand it anymore. I want off this island. Hopefully within the next year or two I’ll make that a reality.

I’ve already got a flight booked on Friday morning. I am also ready to get off the Island.

I can understand that, I’ve been tired of some of the places I’ve lived, and that’s been after only a short time.

A stronger man than I! I would have wet myself. I don’t know why, but I fear the thing flying out of nowhere much more than I do a regular accident. Maybe I’m just jumpy.

I think it had to do with how my car almost “caught” the wheel. The impact happened fairly low so I think most of the plastic bits took the brunt of the force. Airbags didn’t deploy which is a plus also thank God I had the recall done a while ago. If I didn’t and the airbags went off the shrapnel could’ve killed me instead of the wheel.

I do have that fear with 2x4s and pickup trucks or other landscaping equipment. If the wheel was flying directly to my face rather than to the right of me I might have acted a bit differently.

I remember coming home from college on a bus and it was going to go through the lincoln tunnel. A car had broken down and basically shut down the tunnel. I fell asleep and woke up over 2 hours later in the same spot. If I didnt have to work in the city I would have left this place a while ago.
