It’s been known for a while, but the first official photos have been released. Also have a chassis photo, as yes this is still a Body on Frame 4x4 with solid axles.

It’s very green.

Interior looks suitably chunky.

Now Landrover, just pop this in the photocopier and press the enlarge button and there’s how to do the new Defender.

Almost certainly. Question is whether we get it with the 1.5 litre jobbie in JDM spec or something else.

I predict a great interest in a 2020 Jimny Sport with the 1.4 litre Booster Jet engine from the Vitara & Swift Sport...may it also be known as the Suzuki Jimny FTR (AKA Fuck The Raptor)

On a little lightweight like this, the lack of a diff lock can be solved with a light push if necessary. Certainly was the case with the Sierra/Samurai I used to own.

As for the larger 4x4s...I’ve owned and wheeled my fair share of them and none of them have ever had a locking differential. I’ve never felt lacking but then my wheeling has been mostly less about ‘sport’ and more about getting there. And I’ve always got there.

I have looked into a rear locker for our Patrol ute but the coin involved (two grand plus fitting) is better spent elsewhere at this stage...

I have never wheeled with anyone with a light weight rig. So you might be right. As far as aftermarket lockers I agree 110%. A locker will be the last thing I would put in my Nissan. Even then, I still don’t think I’d want the headache of dealing with that on a dd. That being said, I have never met anyone on na easy or moderate trail that regretted having a stock locker. Most of the top offroad trim packages do come with a rear locker. Yeah you probably don’t need it, but it’s nice to have. What is your current rig?

Latest is a 2004 Y61 Patrol cab chassis with the TD42 engine... there’ll be an Oppo post on it again in the next day or so.
