Easy to win when there isn’t any major competition to have to push against.

Toyota proved they have the speed to top Audi and Porsche in the past. This year was just about proving they could beat Le Mans.

Nissan threw its honor away a long time ago.

My contention is; Toyota was pushing so hard to be that fast that they were breaking the cars. Now they don’t have competition they don’t have to push the cars and therefore break them. obviously its armchair speculation but if LMP1 had some competitors this year Toyota still may not have won. I have to look at the numbers though and see how many laps Toyota did this year vs last year, and see if they were running the same speeds.

Edit: Ok so when checking the numbers it looks like they were driving just as fast or faster than the previous years. However once you go back to 2015 the lap numbers are even higher than the current ones.

Honda already has a GT-class win.

They would have won last year if Vincent Capillare didn’t walk in front of the #7 and look like he was waving it out of the pits, forcing a miscommunication that led to the #7 having to launch using the clutch, frying the clutch.

You can’t compare race distances and times to last year because every LMP1 had major delays last year and the performance of the Toyota was pegged back to be closer to the non hybrids this year.

Yeah, but they didn’t spent an hour dealing with a loose drain cover in 2015.

Sorry, but this “win” will always have an asterisk next to it since they were the only manufacturer in LMP1. The private teams didn’t have a chance in hell of beating them, barring Toyota crapping out yet again.

But as Maxima said, speed isn’t everything at Le Mans. It’s speed AND reliability. Which is funny because German cars are supposed to be so unreliable.
