P-Plate means probationary driver.
L plates when you’re 17, after doing 120 hours of supervised driving and turning 18, you then get P-plates, white on red for the first 12 months (with a passenger restriction excl immediate family), then you get white on green for a further 3 years.
0.00 alcohol limit at all times.

Ah, thanks. Many US states have similar, simpler restrictions but the car/plate itself doesn’t tell you — only the physical license card. So basically you have to get in trouble first, THEN learn the extent of the trouble.

p plates are like a red rag to police, they just pull you over for fun.

That’s where you’d run into a lot of civil rights lawsuits in the US...but IMO discrimination based on age/experience is practiced legally all over the world.
Just look at car insurance, or life insurance.

I don’t think police officers here commonly know the difference between a “P” and a “A” license....
But then again, who am I to pretend I know the law? Maybe “P” doesn’t stand for “underage Permit” but instead it stands for “Oh Cool Car, Patricio”

Especially if you’re in a beaten up old Commodore with stockies on the rear ;)
