International trading over such long distances is bad for the environment anyways. Too bad that we’re painted ourselves into a corner, with the world economy being so dependent on it. I can really understand the protectionism, but when the industries are built for a low-standard production aimed at export it will hurt for a while. Any benefits will probably only be visible with a longer perspective.

How so? They already took that hit, their sales to China aren’t going to go much lower. But I think China backpedaled on them after the initial spat anyway.

Just looking at numbers: the economy is going strong, unemployment is incredibly low, the Fed is increasing interest rates, and some financial analysts believe that the US’ economy will be doing better than most other countries in the near and midterm future.
I’m not worried about some limited tariffs.

True, but I can see how some people might not want to take this bullet. Then again, in the grand scheme of things, sacrifices need to be made.
Or all that could be bullshit and we’re all fucked.

Just because trade wars and tariffs have zero legit instances of helping people in the entire realm of economic history doesn’t mean it won’t be different this time!
45 is in cahoots with this specific country though, this is all smoke and mirrors to distract from questionable dealings (ZTE, Jared hawking pay for play residency) and Russia.
