Comparison of “loaded” compact trucks
Tinfoil construction
80-145 hp
0-60 from 15-12.5 seconds
Luxury equipment like crappy jump seats and terrible stereos
2wd
tiny beds and so/so payloads
Inflation adjusted priced between 25 to 33 grand. or about what you pay for a Frontier Pro 4x, a Tacoma TRD sport or Colorado LT.

yep. I’m pretty sure all of those “it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast” have never actually driven a truly slow vehicle.

I remember when entry into the fast club was 0-60 around 7, that number today is sub 5.

1984 Colt GTS Turbo.
1987 Nissan Pulsar NX.
1987 VW Fox.
1300CC Bradley GT.
1965 Chevy C10.
1967 Dodge Dart.
I think the Colt is the only one that broke 10 secs 0-60, and that was split-shifting.

I’ve driven no less than four cars with under 100HP. One of my current vehicles made 80HP, gross, in 1961. I’d guess that it puts down about as much power to the wheels as a nice riding lawnmower.

I’ve always disliked that generalization.
Slow cars can be boring. Fast cars can be boring.
Fun cars are not fun because they are fast or slow, they’re fun because they’re fun, and that can be for many different reasons.

Looks like a test of all the small trucks that are not Toyotas. So really, it’s a test for second best.

I found the interiors to be very intriguing. I sat in the jump seat of a Ford Ranger once, and I think none of those seats should actually ever be used. You only need space for a few bags of groceries and a backpack.

You know, I’m not really good at math, but something doesn’t compute.
“What’s the most popular type of vehicle on the road today. Passenger cars? Maybe five years ago, but pickup trucks are where it’s at”.
“Nearly 3 out of every 10 new vehicles are pickup trucks or other light utility models”.
Um, what? Under 30% is not a majority.

But if the other vehicle types don’t exceed 30%, it will be the most popular.

What other vehicle types were there in 1984? The Minivan was only just becoming a thing. You had passenger vehicles and light utility vehicles/trucks. I can’t think of anything else. I assume full size vans would be part of the light utility vehicle.

I don’t know, maybe they broke it out by body style, SUVs would have probably been included in the truck category, but they do specify “pickup” trucks, so maybe not. But the point was most popular doesn’t have to mean majority, it could just be a plurality.
