"Chariotoflove" (chariotoflove)

...was a good movie, because it was fun. Clever dialog made the whole thing work.
Other things I liked:
Jeff Goldblum playing the same character he always plays...and making it work.
Got to see Galadriel as if she’d taken The Ring.
Korg
Things that were a bit off:
Hulk spending too much time as Hulk. I’m used to seeing Banner as the default state. I’m not comfortable with Hulk staying around in calm moments for long periods. Feels weird.
If Asgard is this shiny paradise with high tech weaponry, why do the commoners all look like poor feudal peasants in rags?
Always thought Valkyrie would be taller.

Asgard was a kingdom; thus only a few get to enjoy the full benefits.

Was my favorite MCU film.

My point was the dress looked anachronistic. The Marvel version of the warriors and city looked upgraded from legend with a modern, techie look that was still faithful to the original myths. The people just looked liked dirty Norse farmers from the 13th century. Not a deal breaker, just something that I noticed.

The humor really made it work.

Possibly mine as well, although I liked Dr. Strange equally for the same reasons.

Yes. Without it, the whole thing would have seemed like any other 2 dimensional action flick.

The sountrack was bomb. Mark Mothersbaugh is the best.

Agreed. I am not one for spoilers, so I’m keeping my comments short about it.

Oh yeah. The rock beat backing up the kicking-some-bad-guy-ass scenes was great.

It’s out on Netflix now. I think you’re free from any embargo.

I don’t know, I thought the comedy was way overdone and it detracted from the whole movie for me.
Props for the Galadrial reference. That made me laugh.

I liked keeping it light hearted. The other way to go would have been to be serious and dramatic, with real character development. That’s not been Marvel Studio’s strength these days.
Glad someone caught that. :)

That’s true. But I guess the director just found the line, at least for me, of what’s too much comedy in a Marvel film.

So, something like the first Iron Man would be a notch lower on the comic relief scale.

Just saw it for the first time last weekend.
Jeff Goldblum was easily one of my favorite Marvel “villains”
Hela seemed meh. Somewhat forgettable.
I’m bummed Odin didn’t play much of a role, he’s pretty gnarly in the comics, and I feel like that didn’t get across.
Korg was great.
Loki’s reaction on seeing The Hulk in the ring.... Priceless.
So... Thor is powerful. Loki is kinda strong. Heimdal and the Valkyrie are probably the next closest in strength. Everybody else in all of Asgard is basically useless..? This warrior paradise that conquered nine realms? Really?
Honestly I thought the darker, more serious parts detracted from the movie as a whole. Which... Is the exact opposite of what I’d normally say. Huh.
Loved it, but still putting Civil War, Spiderman and The Punisher in front.

I don’t like the idea of disposable nameless warriors that fall like Storm Troopers either.
Spiderman and Punisher are great. But Civil War? That’s the movie that almost had me swearing off Marvel movies forever. I absolutely hated it.

Reaaaaally? Why? I hadn’t seen the winter solder or age of ultron so admittedly I went in with less info than most
I didn’t like Dr. Strange. I really wanted to, but... I don’t know. Felt like it should have been longer with how quickly the plot moved forward, and I think a darker Netflix tone would have suited it better

I saw it on Netflix and liked it a lot. Not as much as the first Captain America, but probably on a par with the Iron Man films. I loved Logan so much that it pretty much sapped all of my enthusiasm for Marvel films at this point.

Or even the Avengers movies. The last Avengers movie was quite funny, but it wasn’t the whole thing.

Well, first of all, Civil War’s pretext seemed false to me. They changed Tony Stark’s personality to make him assume a position that makes no sense for him, and the reason they set up was insufficient. Second, absolutely no character development. The whole plot of the film was just to get together as many Marvel heroes as they could and have them go at it. Lame. Even a complex and interesting person like Peter Parker they made seem like a vapid, hero-worshipping little kid. Blech.
I liked Strange because the movie was about his personal journey, at least in part. The humor was okay with me because it was his built in way of dealing with emotional stress. I do this myself. Otherwise, the rest of the movie wasn’t stellar. I would have like to see more of his interaction with his lady doctor friend to bring his personal evolution full circle, but she got pushed aside a bit in the name of action.
As an aside, Ultron didn’t interest me much. I kind of fast forwarded through it. Winter Soldier was interesting to me only in that it had a little personal internal conflict and character development in spots.

I haven’t seen Logan yet. I’m a little afraid to. Not sure why. Maybe because it’s the end.

Eh I dunno, personally I thought a some of the jokes were poorly-timed and ruined a lot of the dramatic tension. Still, I enjoyed the movie and thought it was cool that the director tried to do something different with what’s honestly the least interesting franchise of the Marvel Universe, just wish the humor was toned back a bit to allow for a bit more dynamism in the storytelling.

I think as an end to the series, it’s perfect. I wasn’t sad about how it ended, so much as believing that Wolverine should just cease to exist in any media, because nothing it going to live up to it.
Then again, as a parent, that film will destroy you. I don’t even have kids, and it wrecked me. No superhero film has any right to be that powerful.

I haven’t seen Infinity War. I might speed-watch it with my hand on the fast forward button when it gets to Netflix, like I did with Ultron. I won’t pay for it.
I really liked the GotG movies. I just took them as one big lighthearted gag-fest.
