Kinja'd!!!

My OCD couldn’t handle the 4 or 5 wrench sets that were all missing wrenches. This is much better. A place for every wrench. Every wrench in it’s place. Now for the rest of the work area... Any shop organization tips will be gladly appreciated!

Window section is pretty good after an intense reorganization, but the rest.... Good god. Needs work.

Kinja'd!!!

Especially the tool side... Anybody have tips on the best way to store tons of loose sockets in a way that’s quick and easy to use each one?

Any good ideas for better utilization of the pegboard?

There should be more space dedicated to more varieties of 10mm wrenches.

How do you find the peg board?

Previous owner of the house had some put up, but I had to take it down when I insulated the garage. I’ve been debating on putting it back up. Does it seem to work alright?

Looks really nice! My workshop is a driveway and my tool storage is two plastic bins and a toolbox in our apartment’s storage area. So jealous.

All in a harbor freight rolling tool box makes my OCD happy.

I have a pretty tight workspace in my basement. It’s 24' deep but pretty narrow; there’s an adjacent finished space I can move larger projects into, or else just outside. But it’s forced me to be organized, so that’s a plus.

I put the things I find that I use the most up on the pegboard:

Kinja'd!!!

Not all those things are frequently used; some are just convenient to store that way, like all the various kinds of tape, or the staple gun. Hammers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, tape measure, utility knife, cordless drills. Those I use all the time.

Kinja'd!!!

Upper shelf full of boxes of things; toolbox unseen on the left just out of frame. 5' tall Craftsman drawers. I used an old vanity for the bench, and there are rags under the middle part. The saw on the right is also on an old vanity, on wheels so I can move it to cut larger things. That is my single favorite tool after a cordless drill. Hitachi 10" sliding compound miter saw.

Misc. socket drawer:

Kinja'd!!!

And combination wrench drawer. Ratcheting sets on top, matching normal ones below, and misc. crap in the back.

Kinja'd!!!

Also: a couple of marked, drilled holes in the bench make drilling holes in things much easier, you can just drill right through the bench in one spot. And I also paint-marker all my tools in a specific way. Some you can see, others it’s on the back side, or worn partly off.

I’ve spray painted wrenches and sockets before to make it easy to tell apart SAE and metric. I supposed you could take it a step further and get a bunch of different colors for different sizes then just keep all the sockets in a bin. A craft paint kit would be much more economical than spray cans for that. I think Harbor Freight sells sets that are already either painted powder coated or anodized or something as well but that would kind of defeat the point if you already have a lot of sockets.

Not mine personally, but I’m charge of it all for work. So I get to organize it! Woo-hoo!

For better or worse, everything I need to fix is about 70/30 SAE/metric

This is a two car garage wholly converted into a workshop for an exterior home cleaning company. Not all mine unfortunately! Just... My responsibility.... Sigh.

I did that with my sockets (I should do the wrenches too...). It’s been really helpful for remembering what size to use for a given aplication. “What size socket do I need for my drain plug again? Oh, that’s right- it was a blue one. 13mm it is!”

I really like that idea for wrenches. I’m stealing that exact one, so might as well make you another.

I have multiple of same sizes from losing some and buying new sets or buying the one I need. 2.5” of a 3” screw should hold them all.

Also, pshh, only up to 18? You need some 30’s and 32’s for the tie rods.

I’m glad I thought of it. Shop organization is one of my biggest tasks handed down to me from the company owner. Now I just need similar strokes of genius for the rest of the place

I’m trying to picture a 32mm wrench. I’ve got a 1 3/16" but I think the 32mm would be quite a bit bigger..?

That’s what I want my personal setup to be like.

Space is super tight at the work location, I think I need something that can get all the sockets on the walls

I like it, but don’t love it. It’s super customizable and you can find attachments absolutely anywhere, but if I was doing something for my personal workspace I’d want to spend the time coming up with a solution that was a bit more... Solid.

If you have a table saw I suggest a full french cleat system. Cheap and solid if you want to diy it.

This was almost the right solution.

Rather than having bigger wrenches towards the center, the smaller wrenches should be towards the center.

The outside has room for growth in case 18mm is not the biggest wrench you will ever own. You can put up another hook and hang it in sequence.

Small wrenches only get so small... I have seen 4.5mm and no one ever needs that. 8mm is pretty much the smallest one ever needs for the most part.. But bigger wrenches... those fuckers you need from time to time and hard to find.

I have a 33mm wrench. I had to buy it so I can undo an oil filter on a mini.... MINI cooper. Damn wrench is bigger than entire car. But I do have it hanging... It’s glorious. People ask me what the fuck i need it for... and i show them the oil filter nut I have to undo.

They make magnetic versions of the socket organizers, but I’m not sure where to buy them. (An unbranded one came with a car I bought.)

Alternatively you could rig up a ton of these. :proceeds to fantasize about having a magnetic tool wall: Err anyway, I have one and it is very useful. Now realizing how cheap it was I’m going to have to buy like... 10 more.
