Had an old buddy visiting from Durango.. We decided to head up into the mountains one evening.
Since I daily drive my Elefant, my ‘77 beemer has been getting neglected and needed a battery-charging ride.... So I trusted James with it......
Naturally, he LOVED rallying a classic moto through the mountains (shocker, huh?). Since then, he’s been bombarding me with questions about bikes he’s finding on craigslist.. Another addict born.

It was a good day— whats up with your bike? Do I recall you’re getting the valves done?

Front tire and having them check the starting/charging system. Only 8400 miles, so not due for valves yet. Hopefully get it back this week. I’ve had it not start on me once or twice so I’m leaving it with them long enough to try to verify it and check everything over before my big trip.

Beaver reservoir? Something off the peak to peak, I’m sure it was a helluva lot cooler up there.

I think that’s what it’s called... It’s up that boy Scout camp turn off on the peak to peak close to Ward... Yeah, MUCH cooler up there...
Then went for beers at backcountry pizza in Ned- my buddy was floored by all the sketchy meth heads hanging out there! Lol “yeah bro, this is ned for you!”
Btw— I’ve got a murphy bed shop on Pearl and 22nd- you should bring your lancia by sometime, I’d love to check it out.

Thanks! The advisor at Ducati was looking up items due by time rather than mileage and I was like “don’t bother, I’ll hit mileage on these major services within the next year”, then he says “oh ok we don’t usually have that problem!”
Actually if I end up going to Bonneville with decay in August I might get close to hitting those major services by the end of this summer!

I’ll have to take you up on that soon. I am terribly shy, though.

Yeah... those italian bikes are nice.. hard not to ride them.... I had some electrical issue with mine a few weeks back (loose wire on the reg rec). So I was riding my bmw for a week or so. And it’s a BEAUTIFUL bike.. rides so nice... epic airhead, absolutely love it, etc etc...
But found the lose wire on the elefant, got back on it- and was just all sorts of smiles... Such fun motors to blast around on...

Hey Bob, got a 2WG question for you: I’m a very novice rider who, many years ago based largely on peer pressure, bought an ‘04 KTM 625 SXC from a friend. I bought it with plans to go riding with another friend, who had dirt bikes and a trailer for him and his sons, and a did go ride a couple times with them . But then he promptly moved to Ohio... After that I just rode the bike around a few times near my house and then it sat (for way too long - work, family, life getting in the way is my only excuse for letting such a fine machine be neglected like this ). About a year ago just prior to moving out to a place on 10 acres in the country, I paid a fellow in my neighborhood to go over the bike and try to rehab it. He did a pretty good job, but according to a friend of mine who tried to help me out with it afterward , he didn’t quite get the carb put back together right. So, the last time I messed with it, it started, but didn’t run quite right, and so it has sat. Long backstory to get the real point...
There’s a guy who works in my building that rides a KTM to work sometimes , and I left a card on his bike asking if he’d be interested in the bike (I know it’s really too much of a bike for how I want to use it - just want to learn to ride better and have a toy to mess around with on our land , no plans to ride on the road in the near future ). He called me and we’ve talked a bit, and he’s rebuilding a ‘97 CR125R that he said we might be able to work a trade on. Seems like that bike would definitely fit my wants better, but wondering your thoughts on it. Clearly, it wouldn’t be a straight-up trade, seems like some cash would have to trade hands along with the Honda. I’m 6'1", 220 with a 34" inseam, so it seems like the bike would fit me okay . What do you think?

Whew... CR125 is a pretty small bike.. 2-stroke too... And you’re not a small dude...
Man.. and that KTM sounds rad...
I don’t know... if you’re just looking for a small dirt bike to trash around your land on.. I’d be looking more 250-350 cc 4 stroke....
2-strokes (imo) are a pain to deal with. Pre-mix.. smelly.. dirty af exhaust... I’m just not a fan of them....
Honestly, if I was you, I’d keep the ktm. Sounds like it fits you.. if you wanna just go trash around, it’s certainly quick enough to keep it exciting.. And if you ever want to roam beyond your land, that ktm will take you were ever you’d go...
But I think a 125 is too small a motor for a 220lb guy.. You’ll get bored in an hour...

Thanks for the input. The KTM is an awesome bike... Good thoughts on 4 stroke vs 2 stroke. Maybe I just need to pay this guy to get my KTM running right for me.

That’s what I would do- KTM’s are dope. If you’ve already got one and it just needs a carb cleaning... I’d start there...
Get it running--
and then decide if it’s more than you want.
Good luck!!
