That looks fun, but the next racecar I’m going to buy has to have wings and slicks. I’d like to buy a Formula Mazda to play with in the 3-5 year time frame.

Interesting call on the Formula Mazda. I have a friend that dabbled with one for a season and said no thanks. The challenge is that the setup is so critical so that unless you know what you are doing, you are out to lunch and find yourself feeling silly. Also, I think a background in carts helps. Something to consider.

Indeed on the set up. Fortunately, I’ve got plenty of folks with formula car backgrounds to help get me up to speed on set up. In this division, there is also a real strong tendency for the formula car guys (and most all of us outside of SM) to help each other out when someone isn’t up to speed. Few folks out here have intentions of making runoffs, and our fields are small enough that if you want anyone to play with in the race that is also in your class, then it is in your interest to make sure that what might well be the only other two or three cars in your class out aren’t out to lunch on things like set up.
Funny enough, the spec nature of the class rules and the more limited set up options compared to most formula car classes are one of the things the appeal to me about FM. Sealed motors and you can’t get beat by some guy who spends 15k on a better set of shocks for that last .3ths of lap time.
