So my son turned 3 today, and Grandpa&Grandma gave him a box of cars they picked up at an auction. Should I be posting better pictures and trying to figure out if anything needs saved? or just assume there’s nothing since there are no boxes? (I think they said they bought something like 150 in the box.

I mean there are a few nice ones that I might want to save for me to look at, but I don’t have a place to put them anyway.

I shared it to LaLD for you. My personal opinion, is you should just let him play with them. Very few modern diecast cars are worth much of anything, because so many people save them. These are open, looks like they have play wear. Looks like a good starter collection to me :)

I had an identical Viper as a kid. I’d hang onto the Solstice Coupe and the cute little yellow tractor in the second pic, but no reasoning behind that.

If you like a specific car then perserve it other than that let your son have fun with the cars.

If your son is the kind if kid who pulls things apart and puts them in his mouth, I’d go over the pile and preemptively remove those parts, or just hold those ones back until he’s older.
In the second photo, there’s a “truck” with rubber treads that will eventually make their way off. (Halfway down, towards the left, white and blue, with its back to us.)
Other than that, let him play with the toys.

Pick the ones you like, let him play with the rest. Get a bin to put them in, even though he most likely won’t be using it... case in point

Aaahhh!!!!! That Camaro Police car! I used to have one and had forgot what it looked like in full glory. Mine had very little paint left on it and no light bar, so it was retired from the force, stripped down, and repainted solid white.

Is this the one? It’s a Matchbox 2004 Cayenne Turbo

I can’t believe how many you can identify from the crappy iphone pictures. The few I was allowed to pick up and check (without causing a scene because ‘not yours, mine. daddy’) are spot on.

That’s my thought, I just wondered if it was likely that some of these were worth more than $5 (I realize they most likely aren’t even worth $.50) and I should be setting it aside to pay for his college in 16 years. lol
