Their rangpur is pretty tasty as a varient. Plus you get to say rangpur in your best Bengali accent.

Hm, I’ll have to look for it.
I like Gin, but I’m no expert on the stuff.

I like the lime and orange best myself. Passion fruit is good to though.

Oppo confession time: I’m 43 and I’ve never had anything containing gin.

This is really only acceptable if you don’t drink. And I know that’s not true of you.
A good gin (Tanqueray is good here) and tonic is a wonderful summer quencher. And I go back and forth on martinis- I like gin (Bombay Sapphire) and vodka (Russian Standard).

Plymouth Gin if you can find it. Fantastic stuff. I visited their facility years ago and it truly is a hole-in-the-wall craft distillery in Southwest England.
Totally worth the slight premium, still cheaper than Tanqueray 10 or whatever their top shelf is called.

Ok, fair point when it comes to martinis but for me, a G & T is a perfect summer drink.
And I don’t use Tanqueray in martinis, so that ends up being a summer thing.

Hmm, that Tanqueray bottle in the photo is sadly empty, so I’ll look for it tomorrow. Thanks!
I know there are some really good gins out there, but not that familiar with them beyond Bombay, Tanqueray and Hendricks.

I’m a guy that finds something he likes and sticks with it. I like scotch, so that’s my go to. When it comes to cigars, I’ve had hundreds of the same stick over the last ten years and have had only a couple of different ones.
I’m not opposed to trying it, though.

Go to a nice bar or restaurant and order a real Martini. A gin martini.
Thank me later

Awwww yisssss! I drink very little (a bottle usually lasts at least a year) but I love me a gin and tonic. Haven’t tried that many gins but I usually have Tanqueray.

I’ll stick to my bourbons and ryes.

I never could get the hang of gin. I tried it a handful of times but didn’t see the point in forcing myself to like it when the world is full of delicious whiskey/whisky.

How is Hendricks v Tanqueray? Hendricks is for G and Ts, not martinis right?

Make it dirty, and make sure it’s a good gin too!
What’s your choice for martinis?? I always specify Sapphire but curious what you recommend?

It’s worth a try- Gin is a bit different, thanks to the botanicals in it. And also thanks to the botanicals, gin flavors vary quite a bit.
When you do it, make sure you get a good quality gin - well gin can be pretty shitty imho.

I hated gin till I had some at a micro-distillery. Totally changed/opened up my mind. The mass produced stuff is mostly garbage. Same thing happened with vodka and tequila.

That’s fair. Honestly in the summer when it’s hot I mostly stick to beer. But last night I just wanted a little bourbon.

Tanqueray & Sprite all the way

Hmm, I should try that. The one annoying thing about G and Ts is that Tonic is very high in calories and very filling. Diet Sprite would be better perhaps.

I haven’t tried diet sprite but it’d probably just as good. Tonic is a little too bitter to me, much prefer the sprite (as we called it in college, pinecone sprite).

They’re not all that way. There is a wide variety of gin flavors. If you’ve only had the common ones like tanqueray and Bombay, you’re missing out. Small distilleries make some really fantastic ones.

But why would you use tanqueray at all? Unless it’s ten, but that’s more expensive and very hard to find.

But choosing tanqueray is like choosing McDonald’s over a good restaurant steak. It works, but there are much better choices.

I understand this, and I will drink a gin and tonic under the right circumstances, it’s just not my liquor of choice.
When I lived in NC, one of my favorite craft breweries (Mother Earth in Kinston NC) started making their own gin. I was really excited, right up until their distiller said something to the effect of “Juniper focused.” I bought a bottle, but I’m just never in the mood to drink burning Christmas trees.

If it’s not for you it’s not for you. But so many people have only had one and hated it for the same reason as you. Trying more than one style is important.

Hendricks is good for as close to drinking it neat as possible lol. Tonic, Soda, just some ice; Hendricks is good.
I personally prefer Tanqueray Ten in my martinis. Still spicy like regular but significantly smoother. I recommend Tanqueray Ten for James Bond’s martini too. Chopin for the vodka.

Aviation is my favorite but it’s not always that easy to find. Small local distilleries are great options. Most nicer bars and restaurants will have at least couple choices that aren’t the normal tanqueray, Bombay, beefeater options.

Not really worth it unless there isn’t something better. I’ll take it over normal tanqueray, but not over Bombay. But everyone has their own preference.

There are some local places around Chicago making pretty good gin, but I’ve only had them in bars/restaurants, and they have narrow distribution.
Will have to look for Aviation- it is time for me to branch out in gin. I finished that Tanqueray last night and had to add a bit of Bombay to the drink- my local store has a very good selection so they may have it. Thanks!

Trying a variety is important. It’s like when people say that they don’t like beer but they’ve only tried Budweiser.
