I had some extra tape after re-wrapping my fixie, now my Duo ratchet has a comfort grip!
Also my fixie is more brown now.

Ooh nice bike, reminds me of the orange cannondale I used to have.
Edit: no, wait it might have been a Concorde. Now I can’t remember

Toe straps sounds like a bad idea on a fixie. I like the idea of being able to easy jump off the back of the bike if I have to. I do want some more aggressive pedals tho

It’s a early 80s bike. It needed a bunch of work and it’s too heavy to be a decent road bike. But the crank is solid so I went fixie with it.

How does a bike without gears work when you encounter a hill? Even in relatively flat places there are some “hills” when on a bike. I suppose this is only useful in VERY flat places and you just deal with it. Does this also not have brakes??
Makes me wonder if this is simplify and add lightness taken to the extreme. Can I get rid of the transmission and brakes in my Miata to save weight?

It’s a fixed gear bike. So your pedals are your brakes. The gear ratio is pretty mild so highs aren’t much of a problem, but that’s coming from a BMX kid so I’m used to having a single speed. This isn’t a top speed, or long distance bike. The main point of a fixie is just to make shorter ride more of a challenge. The heavier weight of an old steel bike, the constant pedaling both force you to build strength and endurance. So when you hope on your lighter road bike it feels easy, so you can go faster longer.
The fixed gears also train you to have a smoother rhythm.

If you’re going 30 down a hill and you slip a little you’re prolly gonna break your ankle.
Toe clips and straps are almost as easy to jump out of as flat pedals, I definitely recommend trying it out! I’ve never not been able to bail. I feel much safer and more connected to the bike with all my bikes.
I personally use plastic mountain clips and double straps, but Hold Fast type straps work great too. I keep them loose enough I can still wiggle my foot around a little.
