Someone hit him, yea right. He was flying down that street, this is why a 15 year old shouldn’t be driving a car. Luckily no kids were playing on the streets.

If I was there, I’d of hit him, repeatedly.

And told him to get dressed before he leaves the house and no drive with slip on slippers.

That dude needs a ride in the back of a cruiser to a jail cell. People could have been killed and he desperately needs a lesson in personal responsibility.

Yeah looks like a passat, what a dumbass. How do you get so out of shape with a front wheel drive car, or AWD? Wow, good thing no kids were out, what a fucktard.

I believe so.

I know in the U.K. it’s not illegal to drive in slippers, barefoot or flip flops, ‘providing you can operate the vehicle safely’. If you get in a a collision then it will be taken into account and you may get charged with driving a vehicle whilst not in full control’.

I lost my NSX to an irresponsible 16 year old. Statesticly, teens and the elderly have the highest collision rates, which makes sense when you consider your own anecdotal data as well.

If only there was a consistently repeatable way to make teens understand that it’s not just all bullshit about responsibility coming out of people’s mouths. I mean, before the tragedy, not after.

I think he would have made it if it wasn’t for the car parked away from the curb up the street. Then an over reaction to miss cars on the right and lock the brakes.

Too fast in a residential area.

The US does it by state, but for the vast majority of the country, it’s not even illegal to drive barefoot...like I do!

I drive barefoot 99% of the time. I’m 6'7" with size 14s, so shoes take up a lot of room and the extra inches of the soles take up leg room. I’m so used to the extra pedal feel and “connectedness” that driving with shoes on just feels like rebuilding a carburetor with thick leather gloves on.

I’ve thought about getting my kids a craigslist beater for $300 and having them crash it into a large tree at 30 mph. As the late, great R. Lee Ermy believed: there are 2 things that motivate people: pain and fear. Crashing a car covers both.

Kinja'd!!! Mercedes Streeter > Tristan
06/08/2018 at 23:35

Kinja'd!!!1

Exactly! My cars may be drive by wire, but the additional pedal feel is amazing. I can fine tune throttle input so well that I get 5+ mpg gains and smoother throttle response. I can’t even describe the difference in the brake pedal. It’s just not the same with an inch of sole between my foot and the pedals.

Have high expectations, a good amount of responsibility, and make them feel accountable for their actions.

The most responsible drivers I knew in highschool were people that had from their parents all those things.

That’s great, but you have to add more qualifiers to their list

1. They need to have a good relationship with at least one parent/guardian/authority they respect/care about

2. That authority has to actually be consistent and diligent about accountability. That’s much harder than it seems.

3. They have to remain consistent once they are out on their own, as many of them are out after 18, or simply have a large amount of autonomy in their teenage years.

The learning experiences have to be lived, not just taught. The consequences have to be understood. Experience teaches the consequences. Someone who’s been on the straight and narrow their entire life because their parents said so may crumble to temptation and bad habits pretty much immediately. Everyone drives slower when the cops are out, even the chronic speeders.

These I think are all legit, and they start thinning out the qualified teen herd to a significant degree.
