Going to the dealer coming Monday to do the paperwork. My Mazda 6 MPS/Mazdaspeed 6 needs work that will cost more than I am willing to put into the 12 year old car, so decided to go new. It has been a blast for the last year though.

Went for a test drive in the Hyundai i30 N, basically Hyundais Golf GTI competitor. It was pretty much the only new car that attracted me. Enough power, nice looks, awesome sound, simple and good interior. Was great, put a big dumb smile on my face and financials are doable.

Almost blew it off because they didn’t have the color I was thinking about and it’s missing one option (and ordering from the factory would take 6 months). But thought about it a bit more and it actually looks really good in the red color they have available, plus the missing option is something I can install later if needed but probably won’t even miss in my use of the car.

Pulled from Facebook, car will not have Eibach springs but it was the only image I could quickly find of the Engine Red color with the sunroof.

I’m not sure how long it will take to get it after finishing the paperwork, but they have the car here locally already so it shouldn’t be that long.

Now to figure out what to do with the Mazda because I don’t have room for two cars... If any Oppo in Europe/Baltics area wants a cheap Mazdaspeed6 that needs work, let me know, lol.

Oh! I really like that. 6 months to order is crazy. They told this to my wife when she ordered her Niro but it came 2 months later

Yeah, I thought it might be a sales tactic to get me to get the current stock. So I kind of bluffed to walk away if the ordering time was that long and they either immediately called my bluff or the ordering time is really that long. Either way, didn’t want to take the risk and wait that long.

Haven’t had it officially diagnosed yet, but most probably VVT rattle. There’s a metal on metal noise which is never really good. It’s also a struggle to get in gear sometimes, the air conditioning doesn’t work, CD changer doesnt work. It has had a run in with wildlife by previous owner so some plastic bits broken and front bumper alignment starting to get worse. So a pretty long list which I would have gotten to but by bit if it had stayed mechanically sound. But the VVT stuff and shifting issues make me think it’s goong to take more than I’m willing to put into it. #bestsalespitch

I started out thinking the red was too loud but it grew on me and just really fits.

Sorry to hear about the MS6. At least now you can unleash your inner Thierry Neuville. What was the color you were pining for?

Are you getting the performance trim or whatever Hyundai is calling the package with the extra power, LSD, etc?

I really like this car and I’m disappointed that in the US we’re only getting it in the less-practical shape of the Veloster.

Even still, if Hyundai makes a version with a DCT and the performance goodies, it would be right at the top of my list for a fun car that’s less work to drive in the extensive traffic of my evening commute.

Was thinking Micron Grey. The Performance Blue looked really good but I think I’d get tired of it. The grey metallic looked really good straight away, but as I mentioned, the red kind of grew on me.

Yeah, the base trim was never really an option to be honest, haha. So Performance Pack with basically all the options except for the rear strut bar. As I heard it will have an 8-speed automatic (possibly double clutch) in 2019 sometime. But the manual felt really good though. Nice and sharp and short throws.

It is. The rear end seems to be hit and miss for people, for me it’s pretty good. The overall balance is just really good, aggressive but not too much. For me too much is something like the Civic Type-R that basically looks like a Gundam.

My current car is manual, and I bought it when I lived somewhere with much less traffic. I don’t entirely despise driving in traffic with the manual, but it can get tiring. When I’ve had a service loaner car with an automatic, it’s been kinda nice.

In an ideal world I’d have one practical commuter car and one stupid fun car but my parking situation at my house doesn’t really support having a total of 3 cars.

I know the feeling, sometimes stuck in traffic here as well, making a 5 minute drive last for 20-25 minutes.

Let’s just say I’m dealing with traffic that’s significantly worse than that.

Yeah the Civic Type-R is too much for me too, but cars like this are pretty good balanced indeed.

I wish this car for everyone, it just put a big dumb smile on my face like I mentioned. The sound is just ridiculous, but ridiculous good. Pops and bangs all day long :). Which I’m sure I’ll get tired of at a certain age but it’s not here yet.

God yes, congrats! Pretty much the perfect spec (you won’t regret the red, it really is the best colour for it), just a bit strange that it doesn’t come with the rear strut bar? Is that a separate option in your place, or did the dealer take it out?

Also, any chance you’re joining us on the Europpomeet? The car is practically begging for a visit to the Ring. ;)

Kinja'd!!! Jetstreamer > Out, but with a W - has found the answer

Kinja'd!!!1

The strut bar is a separate option here yes. They only had this red one and a white demo car in stock right now. I asked if the bar could be ordered separately and fitted by the dealer later, the sales rep claimed no, had to be done in the factory due to warranty issues otherwise.

As multiple owners of the car report that it’s removable and even for purchase online, I guess I can add it later anyway. Not sure if I’ll miss the 6% rigidity though, I like driving nice curvy back roads and such, not really a track driver where it might really be felt.

Don’t know about that meet, when it is and such. But the Ring is like 2000+ kilometer drive from here, might be a bit much, haha.

2000 km one-way might be a bit much yeah, I always forget you need to cross the whole of Poland to get from the Baltics to Germany (and vice versa). Anyway, you can find all information here , just give me a shout if you’re considering driving (or flying) in.

Completely understandable. We’ll probably book the group accommodation near the end of July, but if you don’t mind booking something yourself, you can just as well decide to join us on the day before the meet.
