The “low mileage manual” has me interested.

Like other Euro cars... as they age, the purchase price is merely the price of admission. Expect to spend more on maintenance and repair costs.

How much more really depends if it’s a rare high performance model or a regular mass-produced one.

For something like that Volvo, I would budget $200/month for repairs and maintenance alone.

I believe that is a P1 S60 (meaning generation 1), other than that I know nothing about the S series from that era as my V70 is P2.

The P2 Volvos are wonderful cars. This one is FWD with a manual, so it’ll be the least maintenance-intensive version. Keep an eye on the PCV system, treat it nice, and you’ll be very happy with it.

I am driving a 2003 VW GLI with an upgraded suspension, so I am cool with that aspect.

Just curious if there is something SPECIFIC to this model I should be aware of.

Usual old car stuff, brakes, clutch, PCV/emissions system, CV joints, rubber bits...I am god with that. I know what I am getting into.

The manual would make that a fun car with a light tune. I have not had a P2 platform car (which this one is) but if they are anything like the other platforms they are easy to work on.

Because of the Turbos? Maintenance for my NA Volvo from the same era is much lower than $200/month

Ah, so since you’re already have Stockholm Syndrome are accustomed to VAG ownership, it shouldn’t be much different owning a Volvo.

I have heard that the manual is stronger/more durable than the automatic.

And have a look at some Volvo-specific sites like this one:

I mean *budget* $200/month for maintenance and repairs.

So what I’m saying is to be prepared to spend that much as it *might* be necessary.

With cars like this, you have to be prepared to have the odd ‘expensive year’.

But if you don’t end up spending as much, great!

If the B5234T3 engine is still using a Mitsubishi turbo in 2002, expect to pay ~$1500 for a refurb if the part fails because it’s no longer produced new + ~5.5hrs labor to replace it.

Signed,

Mine is the a P2 NA Auto and shares a ton of parts with the Focus/Mazda3 so sourcing parts from the Ford era isn’t terrible. If you are feeling adventurous go with a VIDA DICE unit. I am pretty sure there is a metro DC oppo that has one.

It’s a P2. Exact same car as yours from the front doors forward. Much the same underneath in the rear.

Good cars but that’s too much money, even with the low miles. But it seems to be at a dealer so that accounts for it being 20% overpriced.

I bought a 2006 XC90 2.5T AWD with about 87K miles on it a couple months ago for a smidge over $4K. This is older and more expensive with fewer options.
