Maybe the prevailing wage isn’t high enough?

They’re back at work because of the lowest unemployment in 2 decades. Its almost like we don’t need tariffs or ICE crackdowns.

I’m still confused about the context here.
Angry sign is angry.

It’s almost like the free market created a job demand for immigrant work.

Restaurant.ots of overseas workers come for the tourist season. The lodge had a Mexican, African and Croatian waitstaff. This is a small family run restaurant.

I guess I should be prepared for our beach trip next month. Even the small town spots are full of Eastern European and South Asian waitstaff. This is the first I’ve heard, I thought the fallout had already passed.

In the labor industry prevailing wages are set by the state for primarily public works and government funded jobs and projects. In northern california if I have a construction inspector on a water treatment plant project funded by the state or the feds or local government agency according to the law I have to pay them about $70/hr plus benefits. That’s twice what we pay a 5 year civil engineer.

Americans: “Illegals are taking all of out jobs!”
Americans, after said people have been deported: “I don’t want to work
that
job, that job is for kids or poors.”

Why is my mind sticking on-
‘and yes we have hired and paid a prevailing wage to all the American that applied’
What about the non-American staff and when it says ‘applied’, is that applied to a certain requirement of employment, certain age, etc... or all staff, because why didn’t it just say ‘and yes we have hired and paid a prevailing wage to all our staff’?

I am amused that both sides are correct and as the angry note indicates legal immigration is too difficult in many cases.

So I work for a German auto supplier, in Michigan, and one of my colleagues is here on a 3 year assignment. Arrived a couple months ago. It’s taken his wife over 4 months just to get a work permit......

It’s directed at the Trumpites who say that we should be hiring American workers instead of furriners. I probably should have provided more context. This was at a restaurant in Custer, South Dakota where we had breakfast. Lots of businesses all over the US hire workers from overseas to help out during the heavy summer tourism season. For example, when I was in the Outer Banks of North Carolina a few years ago, all of the gift shops were staffed by college kids from Ukraine or Slovakia. At our lodge here in Custer State Park in South Dakota, our waiter was from Mexico, and there were others from Africa and Slovenia. These businesses depend on workers coming to the US on guest worker visas to fill out their staffs during the summer. Despite what the US jingoists want you to believe, there are simply not enough Americans to fill these jobs. Americans don’t want to wait tables or work in gift shops, but there is a ready and willing workforce of people from other countries who would love to come here and work in beautiful places for three months. So why not let them? That sentence is saying, yes, we have hired all the Americans who have applied, but we’re still short handed. It’s asinine that we are in the situation we are in.
