FT1 easy. mkiv was so much the headlights distinguishing the front end I’m not sure how they could so it with the super thin/agressive new headlights.

The idea of owning 90% of new cars ten years down the road terrifies me. I’ll stick to my 80's, 90's, 00's Craigslist specials! Carburetors seem pretty complex from an outsiders view too though.

I feel like they won’t age well...

Other people: “This Honda has a great warranty and it’s only $XXX per month! Plus it gets 40 mpg! This will be a good car for this stage of my life and should have good resale later on!”

Me: “This Suburban has a 6.0, 4L80E and 14 bolt rear. It can pull anything I could ever need it to, it can haul kids during any stage of life, and it can road trip like a boss. Yeah, the gas mileage sucks, but I can buy it in cash because it’s at the bottom of its depreciation curve, and it’ll last as long as I want it to.”

My reasoning is different than most.

I might be the only one but I’m reserving judgement until I see it in person. The current Camry XLE grille looks terrible in pictures but in person it’s pretty much the best looking FWD sedan on the market. It has a curve to it that reduces the visual length of the overhang that doesn’t show well in photos. Call me crazy but I think a lot of people will be changing their tune when it comes out.

Sticker price on my 2013(!) Avalon Limited which is basically the same as the ES in every conceivable way was $42k. I didn’t buy it for anything close to that price and I suspect that they were offered new with pretty substantial markdowns and incentives at the time. With prices that high though I don’t think they were pushing people to Lexus.

I like Toyota’s position with the Avalon. It’s damn near the same car as the ES, but, don’t want to deal with the dogma of the Lexus badge. There’s not alot of non-luxury fullsize options out there, and while granted nobody is buying sedans right now, it’s probably the best option of the bunch. The 2019 looks like a great car, minus the ridiculous grill.
