My god this motor is SO smooth and the bike SO flickable.

Let down by having the OE tires (8 year old supercorsas....bleh) but still ran nice and wheelies SO smoothly. better then my Z1000 (Z is about 100lbs hevier and has more power, to it pulls the front end up WAY fast and scares my that it will flip, where as this thing is MUCH more progressive)

Were you able to avoid all the boulders and Porsches? I heard Daytonas naturally lean into them.

Do you even track? Bro.

Kinja'd!!!

In the race/track community, the 675 is regarded as the best handling middleweight, provided it is setup properly. The stock geometry is too aggressive in most cases. Hence the “flickability”

Honestly, having this for the street for a day and a bit might have cemented my want/need for one for the track. But I want to get at least 10 track days on the SV done before I even think of moving on

Off topic question - opinions on the Z650 from the past few years? I’m aware it’s probably interchangeable with the FZ-07 and the “new” SV650. But it felt the best between my legs when I was at the dealership.

Mine might be for sale in a year or two. Depends on if I splurge on a new race bike or not. If not I can help you with suspension setup.

Z650 is totally different from the er-6n it replaced and VASTLY better.

I dont like the kawi motor. simple and plain. but its not a terrible bike.

There seems to be something special about those bikes. What’s your take on the triple coming from a v-twin background and now finding yourself with a four? I’m a bit worried there won’t be any proper sports bikes with interesting engines by the time I’m worthy of that type of speed.

Keep me in the loop. I’m either waiting for the 765 Daytona (Moto2 engine?, ys please) or I will buy my suspension tuner’s 2014 S1000RR race bike off him.

first thing: this bike is TINY. I am not a large guy by any means. I felt Almost cramped on it.

Triple motor is actually what I wanted. its the best of both worlds. its got enough low down pucnh that I dont feel like I need to down shift (there are some situations that on a cbr600 I’m dropping a gear or 2. this thing I just go)

BUT, it doesnt run out of steam like the SV did. it just pulls and pulls. its predictable as all hell and THATS part of the magic. its a great noise and its relentless. 4 bangers build and then build sharply and plateau. which makes that little transition RPM hard to manage. this is just silk.

I know TONS of people running R3s. Currently the second most popular class after middleweight. Great little platform. If you want to be competitive don’t skimp on the suspension. On a bike that small it is BY FAR the most important upgrade. K-Tech Cartridges in the front and a K-Tech Razor-Lite in the back is what most people run. I think that setup runs about $2K USD + install and proper springs if necessary. Oh and if for some reason i forget about the 675 suspension setup or quit following oppo (i go in stages):

Front geometry- Run the forks flush with the triple-tree. This is unanimous on the 06-12 and close to unanimous on the 13+. This makes the rake alot less twitchy, though if you typically run on very tight, lower-speed courses you may opt to keep a slightly more aggressive rake.

Front springs - I weigh 180 lbs and run .95s in the front. Assuming you weigh less, you could probably run a split (as in one in each fork, easier than dicking around with pre-load) .95 - .90 or just straight a .90. Compression and rebound - start in the middle and find what you like. I personally run mine very loose as I prefer to feel what the chassis is doing. I’m not a big fan of the “cornering on rails” feeling. Also for compression and rebound, if you feel like the adjustments aren’t getting you far enough in one direction, talk to your suspension guy and he can remove or add shims to further speed up or slow down movement.

For the rear - Move the rear axle as far back as you are comfortable, though this will be a balance of how often you want to be breaking and riveting chains. Personally, I think i run mine 3/4 of the way back on my tallest gearing (therefore when I run the more aggressive gear ratios, I also progressively shorten the wheelbase of the bike). Again this will reduce the twitchy nature of the bike.

Rear spring - I run a .85 with 14mm of preload. .85 seems to be a pretty universal spring rate for the rear but ymmv. a .80 with preload may work better. Same rules apply to compression and rebound.

Gearing - I run either 15-45, 15-47 or 15-49 depending on the track and course configuration. For example I run 15-45 on the Donnybrook course (red) and Road America; i.e. very high-speed tracks. 15-47 on the comp course (grey); balanced. I save the more aggressive 15-49 for tighter, technical courses like Blackhawk farms and High Plains.

off topic but u said AMA...

My sv died on me yesterday. I was riding back home and it just quit. It wouldnt start up for a min and when it did it would not idle without throttle. After sitting on a trailer to get home it fired right up but by time i rode into the garage it died when it went back to idle.

I was thinking fuel related. Pump seemed to be on more than normal and forums showed the high pressure filter gets clogged easily. No codes thrown and the FI light came on when it died at first but never again when i started it.
