"sm70- why not Duesenberg?" (sm70-whynotduesenberg)

Today before going to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , my dad decided he wanted to stop and take a look at a new Genesis G80 5.0, which might soon replace his Hyundai Genesis 4.6 (that I hate). However, when we got the the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , we were told that we could look at one but not drive it or buy it. The salesman told us that the franchise no longer owned any of its new Genesis vehicles: every last one had been bought back by Genesis/Hyundai. Apparently, this is the case for every single Genesis dealer in Nebraska. The way he explained it, when owners of new Genesis-branded vehicles went to register their new car, the Nebraska DMV wouldn’t let them register their cars as Hyundais (because according to the VINs, they aren’t) but also does not currently recognize Genesis as an actual manufacturer. This cannot possibly be the case in every situation as I’ve seen plenty of new G90s (which at no point were badged as Hyundais) running around over the last year with Nebraska plates. Still, the sales team insisted that every new Genesis they had at the dealership, and at every dealership in Nebraska (and Iowa!) was being bought back by Genesis due to not being able to be registered in those states likely for the remainder of the year. Apparently the trucks to pick them up and take them away are coming Tuesday. Somebody enlighten me here, because none of this makes any fucking sense whatsoever.

well, if Hyundai filed to get Genesis its own World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI, the first three characters of the VIN) then I can see some disconnect in trying to register one. But
buying vehicles back
seems a bit extreme; I’d wager it’s more a stop sale or demonstration/delivery hold while they update the VIN tags.

Things sort of ran out of steam when Phil Collins left the band. There was that one album but that wasn’t that good.

Wrong Genesis, still the right answer.

That’s insane.
BTW I drove a G80 Sport a few months ago - big and roomy but it’s the numbest car I have ever driven in my life - and heavy as hell too.
That said if you don’t really care about driving it’s got a ton of features and room for the $$.

Theory: this particular Genesis dealer is one of the ones losing out because they want to separate Genesis and Hyundai - mainly because Hyundai dealers don’t have a great rep. And these guys are being pissy about it maybe?
Otherwise it just sounds too weird.

Yeah, but all they did was hold him back and hold him back, he had to leave in order to make really great songs.

Ice cold take: his post-Genesis songs were mostly boring. The only good album was the one where he covered a bunch of Motown songs.

He does care about driving so hopefully he’ll settle on something else.

You’re surprised by DMV fuckiness?
That is exceptionally weird that it’s the whole brand. What’s the point of taking them away? Could just wait a few weeks for the DMV to resolve the situation.
