Photodump later. We won a medal! Recognition for workmanship, 2nd Gen Celica. We were one of two second gen Celicas recognized. I never expected it, but there it is!
I also test drove the new Corolla hatchback (not the manual because of a huge line). What a fun little car that handles really well. 10/10 would buy if I was in the market for such a thing.

Ooh, Long Beach. I miss that place. I loved visiting the Queen Mary as it brings up great memories of seeing it with my late father in the early ‘70s; I wish I still have the scale model of that ship he built around the same time - the detail was amazing. When I worked in LB we would sometimes go down there for lunch, just because we could. The division of Hughes Aircraft I worked for was a subcontractor to another Hughes company, DirecTV International, and they had the holiday party in the grand ballroom on the ship. I didn’t spend much time at the party, choosing instead to wander around the ship.
I did go to the 1982 USGP West for the Formula One race and got to see my hero, Gilles Villeneuve, a month before he died. I still pull out the pictures I took at that event and relive the memories.
For years and years a friend and I used to go to the classic car/hot rod show down in Belmont Shores. We’d always stop in at Chuck’s Coffee Shop (‘Locally World Famous’) over on Ocean Blvd. Lots of great pics somewhere that I should probably share. Apparently the show has been canceled, so that means that when I go back to SoCal in September I won’t be able to attend that event as I had hoped.
And when I was unemployed but had a transit pass I would frequently take the blue line down to downtown LB and just wander around and shoot pictures for the hell of it. Nice place to wander around and chill, much better than it was back in the early to mid ‘70s; that race really did a lot to revitalize that town.
