As much as I love the Sau 917/20 and the Rothmans/Racing 956/962s, one has to wonder: why can’t today’s Porsche come up with a nice new livery of their own?

The Porsche Intelligent Performance livery was a pretty good try at a new livery in my opinion.

Though the with and black with the red stripe on last years cars was a bit boring.

Exactly. It was not absolutelly brilliant – at least when compared with the ones above - but at least it was something new.

I resent the fact that nowadays Porsche keeps going back to old “themes” instead of going full bore for something innovative.

The marketing geniuses who decided to append “718" to the Boxster/Cayman range designation should be shot and hanged (not necessarily in that order.)

I suppose sometime soon we’ll also see a new version of the 917LH blue/green “psychedelic” livery somewhere.

Because tobacco sponsorships aren’t in motorsports anymore.

That’s only partly true. Have you ever seen the BASF BMW M1, for example?

Admittedly Martini is an alcoholic beverage and that would probably be off-limits now, but remember, for example, that although the “psychedelic” 917 was theoretically a Martini-liveried car, the sponsorship logos were relatively small and nobody even remembers they were there.

And the “butcher’s poster” 917 had nothing to do with any tobacco sponsorship.

Marketing departments seem to be populated with brainless individuals unable to conceive anything innovative. And that’s why absolutely everything nowadays seems to be a rehash of something old and nice. (Don’t even get me started on BMW’s Mini or the endless, useless film remakes we are subjected to every summer.)

Yeah, it’s good that they want to honour the past, but they tend to stick to old stuff too much. They should do more interesting stuff to spice things up a bit.

I’m imagining they will pair the psychedelic livery with the silver with Martini stripes?

A few years back someone in Pirelli World Challenge was running a Cayman in the Psychedelic colors.
