This is the list of light vehicles sold in the U.S. that will not be having their prices increase by 25% due to Trump administration tariffs.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

If you want a big truck (but not too big, RAM 2500/3500 models will go up 25%) , big SUV or Honda sedan, you’re in luck.

Note that all Jaguar, Land Rover, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Volvo models will go up in price, as will all VWs except the Passat. It will be good news for the Honda CRV (US built), but not the Toyota RAV4 or Subaru Forester or the Mazda CX5. Mazda has been struggling in the US market for years. I would expect them to pull out if the tariffs linger, with Mitsubishi and VW not far behind. With the capricious nature of U.S. trade policy, it would not be a wise investment to build manufacturing facilities here.

Carpe Diem

Maybe I should buy that new Mazda Miata RF to replace my ‘97 M Edition sooner rather than later.

Of note on the Civic, most if not all of the Si’s are built in Canada.

Is it all of them? Because there’s not one single vehicle that will have a 25% increase in price.

I think CT6 hybrid is built in China, too. But as 45 admires their glorified dictator and ZTE, maybe it will be exempt.

We can only hope this is just hot air from a showboating narcissist. If not, maybe the Germans should cut off their nose to spite their face (like American voters) and walk away from their Murkan facilities.

The Trump proposal is that all cars imported to the U.S. would have a 25% tariff applied to them, regardless of country of origin or where the manufacturer is based. So the vehicles on that list are the only ones that would be exempt.

If the metals tariffs stay in place and he doesn’t put a tariff on imported cars if anything imported cars will see their prices reduced since the regions making them will have more steel and aluminum that will be sold cheaper as it cannot be sold in the us profitably anymorw

They’re not going to increase 25%. Tariffs are presumably charged on the value of the import, not on the actual sale price (possibly invoice, possibly manufacture cost) but less than the final sale price. Manufacturers have around a 5-10% margin, so they’re not going to be able to eat the entire 25%, but they’ll probably eat some of it. Even if they pass 100% of the additional cost onto dealers, and dealers pass that on to consumers, that’s about a 20% increase in total cost. The manufacturer and dealer won’t sell them at 20% over the competition, so they’ll likely eat some of that increase too, so end result will be about $5,500 on a $35k car. Still a large increase, but it’s not going to be 25%.

Replace my green over tan ‘97 M Edition? Never! Buy a new RF to park next to it? Absolutely! Seriously, it was one of the luckiest days of my life when I found a 2-owner, 50k M that only needed TLC to look and drive like new again. I’d feel like I’d jinxed myself for life if I sold it.
