Mostly because most people in the Bay Area don’t know where it is or won’t touch it. Well here you go - in 1 picture courtesy of Google streetview. Richmond is the kind of place where you put on your GOOD pajama pants to go for a drive in a paint-faded old GM SUV with shiny rayyyyyummmmzzz.

This city is such trash, haha.

Bonus picture, for which I’m sure the streetview driver immediately regretted:

I lived in Oak Park in Sacramento and would never consider stopping in Richmond unless guided by a local to where the cheep drugs are located.

Yeah, it’s a shiphole. Thankfully El Ceritto and Albany are quite good so there’s rarely a need to venture around Richmond too much.

The rear wheel looks like the one with dicks for spokes.

I once was there for a little while. Definitely sketchy. Possibly not as sketchy as Vallejo or downtown Sacramento, though. I actually felt less safe in both places than I do in traditionally sketchy areas like South Los Angeles. One of my most nerve-wracking, “I’m am legitimately in danger here and should not have gone out alone at night” experience was staying in Emeryville around 2008, which I thought was far enough from Richmond and Oakland to be safe, but I was wrong.

The East Bay Area is a messed up place.

I would have guessed the Central Valley... Eureka at least has something going for it. Even Ukiah has something going for it (but even less than Eureka) in comparison to most of the CV.

Gonna be an absolute snob, but this kind of sums up why I avoid the East Bay.

I know, I know, feel free to roast me and my sheltered West San Jose/Saratoga/Cupertino existence.
