Police said it received a call for an incident involving a Tesla and other cars in the early evening of May 29, but did not intervene as the owners decided to handle the case through their insurance companies, Kathleen Calie, a spokeswoman for Brussels South police, said by phone.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! according to the police, the owner of the vehicle was outside the car, busy closing the gate of his agency while the engine was running. The Tesla then set off on its own, crashing into other cars parked nearby before finishing off at a Dacia Logan across the street.

Tesla has denied the driver’s version of events...

What I find really amazing is that tesla drove off on its own (which is fine) but then it couldn’t detect parked cars and avoid them. THAT is the fascinating part.

Must be Ford trying to sabotage and planting Mustang ECUs in the cars.

I wonder if this was the V6 or V8 Model S?

good point. I don’t know what’s involved in starting or stopping the car’s motor functions... but something was on... radio?

You sure it wasn’t the Shelby P350D?

He either summoned it or left it in gear.

yeah. that’s fine. I get that you can summon it... or maybe it heard something that sounded like it was summoned... but... BUT why did it crash into parked cars? Shouldn’t the whole thing avoid crashes as part of autonomous bit?

Certainly you might want to summon it... but should it run over people and cars to come to you? I don’t think so.

If the car is not driving itself, it’s not autonomous, so no autonomous bit is working.

Right?

if there is no one in the car and car is driving... I think that’s a definition of autonomous.

Was the car driving tho? Did the owner summon it or leave it in gear or neutral?

All we have is the word of an embarrassed Telsa owner.

He was closing the gate while the car was ... parked? Allegedly it started to drive and drove into bunch of cars that were parked. If car is being summoned, it should engage autopilot. or else... dead puppies.

If the car was in gear with perhaps an emergency brake that somehow got disengaged, that’s a different story... I have seen too many people pull up to have a car valet parked... leave it in DRIVE with e-brake on.

Sometimes, I really dislike humans.

“the engine was running.”

I have my doubts
