We’ve got one kid. Having one kid didn’t really effect me or my space much. Come November, however, I will have two kids and that changes quite a bit.
Pre-kid, I had a garage and a room in the basement for my stuff, computer, and TV...basically a second living room plus office. Post kid, my wife moved her sewing room to that basement room and I moved my stuff to the third bedroom upstairs (small) while the second bedroom became the kid’s room.
Now my room is going to become the first kid’s room and his old room becomes the newborn’s room, and the garage is getting framed up, closed off, and made into a playroom/family room for the kids. Which means my garage...well, the nature of my garage is changing.
Yep, I’m moving to the shed. It’s a good size shed, 10x12 or so, and it’ll make a fine workspace. And right next to it...
...a spot for the Monte Carlo. I’m going to get rid of the bushes next to it, and then it’ll be a nice large spot to work. It’s not ideal, but I don’t hate it.
Also, I did get some work done on that car today.
I’m not convinced the old starter was necessarily bad, because the bolts on it were preeeeeetty loose. But for $35, if I’m taking an old starter out I’m putting a new one back in.

Well at least you have the shed! That is until you have a third child and they make that your bedroom... Posted today in my LR group, seems relevant:

Let ‘em share a room; it’ll strengthen their relationship. And remember that the number of children is not a coefficient but rather, an exponent .
So if we let
k
represent
kid
, then the second kid is not
k
plus
k
, but
k
times
k
; not 2
k,
but
k
^2.

Dogs work this way, too. Somehow, two dogs are more than twice as much of everything.

Two kids with their own rooms? Pffft. If they’re both boys or both girls, stick em in one. I’ve shared my room with my older, then younger, brother since I was like 2. (I’m on the cusp of adulthood- last summer living at home!)
You’ll miss the garage, especially with kids. At my house, it’s full of all of our bikes amd such- I wouldn’t get too attached to the shed.

Sweet SS. That was my high school car. Mine was silver, column shift without t-tops. I traded it in on a Geo Prizm while still in college.
We have four kids. Yes, they can definitely cramp one’s style.

Yeah, I’ll definitely miss it. At some point we’ll have to look into a larger house, but for now we’ll make this one work. And yeah, I’m sure in two months all my wife’s gardening stuff will make it’s way into the shed and I’ll be SOL.

It’s not about the sex of the child, it’s the differing ages. You don’t want a crying in the middle of the night infant, next to your other child. But we have a three bedroom and three boys, 6, 4, and 2. And soon to be infant daughter to join the crew. We kept our nursery and nursery since the first boy. And once they got old enough, we rotated them out into the other bedroom. Now we have 3 boys on a bunk bed and it works fine for the time being. So yeah, you can rack em and stack em pretty deep in the same room as long as they sleep similar amounts, or at least don’t wake up screaming in the middle of the night.
Now losing a garage...... oh hell no! Kids do not need a play room, the whole house is their playroom.

Life hack: raise kid in shed. They don’t remember anything till they’re 2 or 3 anyway.

Then three changes things a bit, but not that much. Going one to two is a big jump, but after that it’s not as bad. We’re going from 3 to 4 in a couple months, but the jump to three wasn’t too rough. Just switching from a man on man, to zone defense. That’s the biggest adjustment.

We’ve got 3, soon to be 4 in 1800SF with a basement and 3 bedrooms. Biggest problem now is to lack of toilets. 2 boys are potty trained and the third is just getting started before our number 4 comes in a couple months. The two bedrooms for the kids is no issue, 3 boys in one room and the baby gets the nursery. But I’ll be damned if I give up my garage. 2 car that still fits two cars. Adding the shed helped though. Otherwise I’d have to give up half to kids stuff.

I’d get a concrete pad put in next to the shed so that you have a stable jacking surface.

Meh. Americans — and I assume you to be one — have this thing about putting newborn babies in a room by themselves. I’ve never understood that and I’m pretty sure the humans we evolved from didn’t do that either. We wound up in the middle. We bought a futon and put Baby on the futon and went to bed together until Baby woke up wanting fed, and then Mom went out and slept some or all of the rest of the night on the futon with Baby. Worked great. Then eventually, Baby wound up bunked with Sibling.

Dude: y’all been BIZzy. The only cars there were time for were daily drivers that needed fixing. Other than that... Now, it’s weddings and whoever tells you that weddings are stressful and expensive is telling the truth. Even a very modest wedding...

In my marriage, I make all the major decisions and my wife makes all the minor decisions and so far, there have been very few major decisions.

There are some efficiencies, also, when they occupy each other. And delights there, as well.

I was thinking about that. I could probably level it and do it myself, instead of doing the old ‘jack on a piece of plywood’ thing that totally sucks.

This one is kinda junk, but I dig it. It was one of those cars I’d always consider but end up buying something else...usually a Fox Mustang.

We tried the bassinet in our room for the first two, kept thr first one in our room for a couple weeks to a month, then moved him to his own room. Our second, he didn’t even make a week, before we gave him the boot. Our third, well didn’t even bother with the bassinet. My wife couldn’t sleep with the little guys right next to us. Stirring and snoring and such. Once they get big enough to crawl out of bed they end up in our bed at some point in the night. It’s funny, they’ve all done it, but only for a short time, then they finally stay in their beds for the night after they hit 2 or so. We’re not a fan of co-sleeping though. But it ends up happening at some point as they get older.

In our case, especially, being all boys. Clothes and all that, no big deal. And they all keep each other company, in between whupping on each other. It’s awesome though. Wouldn’t trade it for life without kids.

My brother has boys. They whoop on each other nightly. Sometimes there’s crying and drama and Mom has to get involved. Then my brother has his fill and moves in and whips some hind end. Rinse and repeat. We raised girls. Preferable.

Sounds about right. Sometimes I just let them figure it out for themselves... sort of like a hockey fight. The refs let the guys get wore out before they break it up. Even my 2 year old was in on the action this weekend, that little guy is tough. It’s going to be interesting with the new addition coming. She’s going to have to be tough. Good times.

She’s doing okay. She swears she gets amnesia after every pregnancy, that’s the only reason she would do it more than once. It’s definitely rough on her though. And add the other three rugrats running around, and I dont know how she does it. She’s a hell of a woman. On top of all that, she has to put up with me too. But seriously, I try to do what I can to make it easier. I’ve got a good one for sure.
