So what’s this “paint lubricant” he is talking about? Spray detailer? Optimum No Rinse?

That description sounds exactly like spray detailer.

Oh dear God. It’s another one of those American buzzwords designed to confuse anyone and not clue them in to exactly what it is.
The way he’s using a pressure washer first and then drying the car sounds like he’s using a Quick Detailer as a drying aid.
A Quick Detailer can be used on a dry vehicle to remove light dirt, bugs and bird bombs as they have a cleaning agent as well as post cleaning protection in one, but they can also be used on wet surfaces to aid drying of a vehicle by removing any impurities left behind by the water which cause water spots, while again leaving behind a protectant, topping up any existing protectant that may be there such as a wax, sealant or coating.
This is simply ‘liked’ using a waterless wash, only wetting it first to remove the heavy dirt.
A great product to use that’s inexpensive is CarPro ECH2O,
https://carpro.uk.com/products/ech2o500
Which for £12 for 500ml for the concentrate can be diluted:
1:15 waterless wash spray
1:25 quick detailer
1:40 clay lubricant to reduce friction and so micromarring when claying the vehicle
1:200 rinse less wash.
Personally if you were going to bring the pressure washer out you may want to use a little snow foam applied by a pressure pump or a citrus based pre-wash on a dry car, as they will help remove more dirt than using a pressure washer alone. The foam or citrus pre-wash will help by softening, breaking down the dirt and lifting the dirt away ready for the pressure washer to get underneath it and lift more dirt away.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like Optimum No Rinse, been using that for the longest time in my parking spot before the wash bay was opened (until I got yelled at for using the bucket method, then switched to the spray method). Guess I’ll restock on that since the bay has been busy lately.

I’ve never used Optimum Non Rinse, I can’t get my head past spraying anything and wiping onto anything more than a very lightly dirty car.
I got through wet sanding but micromarring and the risk of scratches plays heavy on my mind.

So you can foam the car and rinse it off and just finish the car with EcH20?
When the car is super light on dust I’ll pressure rinse it and then dry it with EcH20, but I didn’t know I could foam the car first to try and dissolve anything else.

If it is just dust then you can chose to or not to use a pre-wash, but if there is traffic film build up from benzene deposits from the road you’ll need the cleaning properties of a pre-wash to break through the grease. If it’s not dust, not much dirt will stick to your car. The traffic film will however and it’s the dirt that will attach to that that clings.
It’s the same reason we snow foam or citrus pre-wash before doing a regular wash, to soften the dirt present so when we hit it with pressurised water it lifts more away leaving less to remove during the two bucket wash, in this case we are intending to remove as much dirt before wiping over the surface with our chosen QD/drying aid/etc...
Something like this will do the job.
Like this.

I have the Kwazar. I actually got it to pre-treat bad areas when I am doing a regular wash. But I guess I can use it when I don’t have my pressure washer out.
But when I have my pressure washer out and I just rinse it I can actually get all of the film off of the car with just the pressure washer. But I suppose the foam will get that film off when I only want to get the hose off, and not the pressure washer.
But speaking of pre-treating, the EcH20 will get the film off if used with the pressure washer. But I think I use a slightly more concentrated solution than what CarPro says on the bottle.

Ye’, I put the different dilution ratios above. They recon if you want to use it more as a QD to add some Reload to add a little more protection.
