"Tapas" (tapas)

I got a job offer for a very entry-level role, which I’m going to take!
I’m waiting to hear back from the jobs I interviewed for and actually want, but its progress :)
I’m looking for a daily driver and my commute is going to be 80km (50 miles) round trip (at least with this job).
Please suggest fairly reliable and fun sedans I can buy in the Toronto area or in Ontario. I would prefer manual but automatic is just fine. My budget is around $8k Canadian dollarydoos .
I’m looking into Lexus IS350, Infiniti G37 and E39 540i while dreaming of getting an E39 M5 ....

*whispers* TSX...
TL is a fun choice too if you want more power, unless you’re opposed to FWD.

I have nothing again FWD cars. I’ve just never owned a RWD one and am not sure if the TSX is sporty.
Is the TSX fun to drive?

The E39 M5 was never sold in Canada. Maybe an E46 varient.

In my opinion, yes. I know interstate 366 will probably back me up here (he has a second gen, I have a first gen). It’s a blast to drive in the twistys. Biggest help is definitely a good set of tires like mine has, plus suspension mods are fairly cheap and easy with a whole variety of options. If you want full sports sedan, I’d say TL Type-S with a stick, harder to find and worth more than a non S TL, it has upgraded suspension, braking, and more power if I recall correctly.

Find a manual Tsx for perfection

Really? That’s a bummer. I’m seeing two E39 M5s in the GTA area for an eye watering $22k and $28k.
I know the US has plenty of them with decent examples available for around $16-$20k. But importing is expensive and not worth it :/

I suggest a Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso.
Oh yeah, the budget.
Congrats

It is quite fun to drive, in my opinion. Both generations have double-wishbone suspension like the Hondas of old, which adds a bit of sportiness to it, and the ubiquitous K24 engine is very mod-friendly if you want more power. Lots of wheel and tire options as well. I think the 2nd gen is still a little out of your budget (though in Canada there was a base model with fewer options that the US didn’t get that might be cheaper), but a 1st gen definitely is within your limits. It’s been awhile since I drove a 1st gen, but I do remember it being fun.

Nissan sentra SE-R. Well under budget, incredible performance for it’s time, a total sleeper and somewhat rare

Uhh, what? They sold (in extremely limited allocations) the E39 M5 up here.

Can you even get a good G for that? (but definitely a G for the sound)
Edit: Yes you can!

I’ve spent some time in an automatic TSX (mother in law’s car), and I can confirm that it’s a great car. Fantastic steering feel, very communicative, great seats... it even has a good exhaust note. If I were shorter, I’d buy one- the moonroof cuts into the head room too much for me.

Of those choices I’d go with the Lexus with hat commute... but just be aware that for that budget they will probably have close to 300k kms on them which means litany of maintenance even for a Lexus... what about the IS250... it’s a 2.5L V6 that can be had with a manual: http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Lexus/IS/INNISFIL/Ontario/19_10649694_/?mnclk=1&showVs=1

yeah they’re rare and owners know that. Definitely give a manual TSX a try if you can, I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Seconded again. Mine is a manual and I plan to keep it for a long, long time.

I know mine’s a “boring” auto but i’ve put 13,000 joyfilled miles in just under a year. I’m hoping to hit 200k right around the 1 year anniversary of ownership

Are you sure about that?
I’ve driven a regular new Sentra.....how much better is the SE-R?

In a completely different league. This was one of the most capable subcompacts of it’s time, and still an absolute blast today. Also, I should mention I’m talking about this generation - brembos, limited slip dif, 6 speed manual, roughly 200hp and ft/lbs, and best of all, available in yellow.

Oh, I didn’t realize that about the IS350. I’ll see if I can find a 350 with lower miles...

The auto isn’t bad, plus I think you do more long-distance driving than I do. Although I have managed to somehow put almost 8000 miles on mine in less than a year, despite having a work commute of five miles round trip.
