I found a working Apple Magic Trackpad with Mobee rechargeable battery over at the Goodwill Outlet, and it set me back maybe 75 cents. I don’t have the inductive charger, but that was found on eBay, new in box with another battery (for the keyboard) for $10 shipped.

It is missing one of the rubber pads on the bottom, but I can find something that will fit and work without resorting to spending $10 for a genuine set of 4 matching genuine Apple grey pads. It’s just a little piece of rubber on the bottom, something nobody will see. I’m not one of those anal-retentive types that must have everything neat and clean and perfect. Life is too short to obsess on minutiae...

It’s the Goodwill Outlet, the place that sells by the pound,   where I find most of my bargains. It’s not for everyone - you have to dig through a lot of garbage to find the gems, but when you do, the feeling of success is amazing. I don’t mind picking up broken things, knowing that if I can get them running again I’ve saved a fortune. I still use an older, but still capable, Macbook Pro that I bought ostensibly for parts. The Canon G10 digital camera, although a little older, is probably my favorite digital camera. I’ll grab DirecTV and TiVo DVRs for a couple of bucks and have some nice 1TB AV hard drives that I can use elsewhere.

You have to be willing to get a little dirty, at the store and at home, but the rewards are worth the effort.
