I finally have resolution regarding a complaint a home owner filed against me for an appraisal I did on 04/2016. After the state board reviewed the complaint, found in my favor, Mr owner filed an appeal, which meant I had to appear in front of the Ohio appraisal board this Thursday. Long story short, they found no fault in my report and told him to pound sand. Vindication was so sweet. I thanked the board for their time and I enjoyed the 2 hour drive to Columbus and back.

Nice! A lot of my claims are home inspection E&O, 9 times out of 10 the home owner is a dickhead

I have sold real estate. I was, briefly, an appraiser. I had a job where I reviewed appraisals for a government contractor - that was nearly 3 years. Bitching about an appraisal, especially one done by an MAI, is usually a fool’s errand.
Recently we purchased the coop we’re in. No commission, so the appraisal was always going to be higher than the purchase price, but I took the opportunity to review our appraisal. 152 units in the building - there was one comp I would have switched out for another, but the results after adjustment would be within $1000 of the appraised price. The guy who did it was spot on.

I am not in the business, and I have never seen your place beyond the bathroom door and step up (oh, and the tables Vader keeps climbing on), but I can already tell you what your place is worth from where it is:
Too damn much.
Can you tell I’m bitter about the dream job in NYC I didn’t take because I couldn’t afford to live there?

I couldn’t afford to live here either, but I came anyway, in July 2001. If you learn the ropes, it’s no more expensive than say, DC or LA. You just have to know where to live and where to shop.

That’s what I figured too. First thing I did was contact the local disabled resource organizations. There’s usually one wherever you go, and they have the inside scoop on apartments, medical equipment providers, public transit options, you name it. This time, all they would do was refer me to HUD subsidized projects, for which there were at least 2 year waiting lists.
So, I went it alone. After a few months of searching, I realized I would have to go way out into the burrows and have an awful commute to find some place accessible I could afford to live on a less than $40K postdoc salary. So, I gave up. I’m sure I could have found something eventually, but by then I was 32, married, and not willing to live like a roach in a corner for a job.

Other issues: not every subway stop has an elevator. Some offices do not have a handicapped toilet and are not required to if grandfathered ... guy I knew had to go to Starbucks to hit the head.

Oh, the job offer was in Hunter College, which had a subway stop in its basement...that was not accessible. It’s kind of like the bike paths thing in my city. They actually have a lot of trails on a mileage basis, but not so you can use them to get anywhere useful. So, it ends up being mostly for recreation. Having a subway stop that’s accessible on one end doesn’t help if the other end of the trip doesn’t. I researched the Manhattan subway map at the time. 11% of stops were accessible.
Sidenote: none of the stops in Paris were. I couldn’t use a single one. They also had buses, but only on limited routes at limited times.
