What’s next... smash the screen inside the car, “sorry, it’s glued down permanently, and car will be destroyed if you try to remove it. You’re gonna have to RMA the whole car. Can we interest you in this screen damage warranty?”

seems like most of the cost was because of the specific type of paint and the labor required to match and blend with the surrounding body panels. i guess you could say with any car if you get a special paint its gonna be expensive to fix.

Paint was barely more, bulk of it was labour.

lots of cars have had “tri-coat” paint finishes, and they don’t cost that much.

although to be fair, Edmunds ran into something similar when they did their impromptu assessment of body repair costs on the aluminum F-150. they deliberately dented the bed side, but accidentally also broke the tail light. and since this was a loaded truck, the tail light had the radar sensors integrated it, making it a $1,200 addition to the repair bill.

Settle for cash, buy an $8 rattle can of metallic blue Rustoleum, presto! good as new and you’re $6992 ahead.

weird. One estimate is for $125/hr the other is for $45, but then throws in $2700 in ‘miscellaneous’

This is approaching V10 TDI Touraeg levels of insanity. Serpentine belt change? Engine out.
It may not be that bad... but still.

The removal of the drivers mirror and disassembly of the rear seat to replace a fender is crazy.

I’m more concerned that there is apparently an HV risk in working on the front fender.

Part of me wishes I could get a beat up Model X for this reason. I don’t care about how it looks, I just care about the drive train.
