The internet is a scary place.

In my imagination, there is a group of benevolent pro-DIN terrorists out there doing this to every new car on the lot.

To hell with the proprietary stereo cartels!!

What the hell, why?

I don’t know what the car is but surely it has a recess for the radio.

You want how much for a harness and dash kit? No. I do myself.

I have on my table a dash panel for a mid ‘90s Chevy Astro. The originally stereo hole has been cut out, the top moved up, the sides built up with metal plates and epoxy putty... all because Chevy didn’t use standard radio formats and my brother wanted a double DIN stereo... which means that he has been driving around with the stereo rubber-banded in place and no dash panel for years.

I got another panel off eBay because it finally annoyed me enough to do something. The above listed mods are almost ready. Then... he will have a complete dash.

That one would be simplicity itself to just make a plate for and use double DIN. I think the way they did it, they actually made it harder on themselves.

If it looks stupid but it works, it’s probably the lazy way to do it

Okay, it was a vehicle specific radio and rather than buy a surround to put a generic radio in they did this.

People are stupid.
