having thought I’d ruined my chance to keep chatting with my scammer, a few minutes on google images and a moment in mspaint and I was back in the game

I sent my buddy a text with a picture of the ebay giftcards I had “bought”. I assumed I had been blocked since he had stopped responding, but nope.
I THINK I still have him at least partially convinced that I’m interested in his scam. The “Please speak the phone” is because he was now calling me repeatedly. To which I would answer and reply that I wanted to talk by text or pretend the call was breaking up. He was quite legitimately excited/anxious to get his ebay giftcard numbers.
ANY quantity of card numbers. After all, he’d worked me all day, he deserved this pay out!
umm... ok, he MIGHT be onto me... pornographic image redacted/censored
but no, a WHOLE minute passes and he asks for card 3. SURELY by now he is playing along, right?
is that the end? well... I mean it probably SHOULD be. but, to be honest, I REALLY think he still thinks I have actual giftcards in hand, and that he has a chance to get them if only he could talk to me in person.

The Flock of Seagulls reference made me LOL at work.
True story: I was supposed to work a Flock of Seagulls show in about 2007 or so when I was working at that concert venue. They only sold about 80 tickets so I was “on call,” and I didn’t go.
The last song of their regular set was “I Ran,”
Their encore was “I Ran.”
I am absolutely not making this up.

You use your real phone number of a google voice number?

I’ve been using the same phone number for all my CL ads since before google voice numbers were really a thing, so it’s already well and truly screwed. So yeah, this is still on my actual number :S

I got a shit ton of spam calls after I started applying to jobs, I think it’s more of a coincidence that anything else.
Got one from Houston yesterday, was worried for a second that it was someone trying to get me to go back to the oilfield. It’s wasn’t big blue, I’ve got a call last year and I knew before I picked up because it said sugar land Texas under the number.

Well, every minute of his that you waste is another minute he can’t scam someone else. Though, anyone stupid enough to follow his instructions kind of needs the life lesson.

yeah. there’s red flags all over the place. but, the one redeeming factor is, even if you go ALL the way to buying $1200 in gift cards and hand over the details, all you’ve lost is $1200. In the grand scheme, I’ve seen worse scams.
Attempts to get bank details or such certainly have no ceiling on the amount of money you can lose.

WOW hadn’t seen #2 yet, fantastic work. Like others have said, it’s great to waste these guys time. And also like I said on post #1, if you have a legit contact you should turn them in. FBI are the ones to direct to because they are operating across (at least) state lines.

I’ve got one on the hook right now! Same scam through ebay!
https://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/boa/d/kawasaki-stx-15f-jetskis-2/6560019966.html
Got these pics: https://www.use.com/OUvGS
(links are safe btw, already tested)
Not using the military ploy this time, but yet has a military woman image on the google account. They want to use ebay motors and the shipping is included! This is about 10-13k worth of jet skis with the trailer btw. And they are also in Omaha. I offered to have my cousin pick them up, we’ll see how it goes.

For some reason Kinja won’t let me respond to your below reply. I guess because Kinja.
The interesting thing was they require a text/phone call to get in touch based off the craigslist add. when I texted them yesterday they said “This is my work number, for more info/photos about 2012 kawasaki stx-15F + trailer at $4,000, reply to my personal email: angelal6wyatt@gmail.com”
Of course they double tapped it and sent it twice.
I led with:
Emailing you about the Jet Skis
https://toledo.craigslist.org/boa/d/kawasaki-stx-15f-less-than-45/6597186517.html
I’m not sure why you didn’t have an email attached to the Craigslist ad if that was your desired method of contact.
To confirm, the $4,000 price is for the 2 STX 12F’s and the trailer, correct?
Thank you

Interestingly they started a new email chain instead of replying and don’t question that I changed my message and said 12F instead of 15F
