Kinja'd!!!

So, I had an interview scheduled this afternoon today. I drove for 90 minutes upstate yesterday for it and bunked with my sister for it. The last week I’ve been doing my homework on the job, getting ready for battle, full of hopes and dreams that I might finally be going somewhere when this pops up in my inbox this morning:

“I apologize but we will have to reschedule your interview as rick and I both are not going to be able to make the noon interview tomorrow. I will send you a message through indeed with the updated interview information sometime later today. “

Look, I’m not so far up my own ass to believe the world revolves around me, but...the fuck. This was sent at 2 AM, there was nothing I could do at this point. At least I found a printing place down the street here. Maybe something can come from them.....

Shit that sucks - but it sounds like some emergency popped up. It has happened to me before. Hopefully they can reschedule as soon as possible. Good luck!

Ask yourself if that’s really a place you want to work for.

In my experience how a company treats you during the interview process is a very good indicator of how they’ll treat you as an employee.

I generally agree .... but it sounds like a legit emergency happened. I mean the guy is sending an email at 2 am — I’ve been involved in hiring well over 100 people (and interviewing hundreds more) and have never had to send an email at 2 am to any of them! I’d at least go to the rescheduled interview and ask what happened (or send a response to the email and ask if everything is ok in order to try to flush out what happened in advance of an interview). If the reason doesn’t hold water, then make a decision to dump them.

I would still give them an opportunity, because as Williams said sometimes emergencies happen. It was a 2am message after all.

I’ve been there a couple of times and unfortunately, both times didn’t work in my favor.

Please note: this is not to alarm you because everyone’s situation in these scenarios is unique.

Once a hiring manager was going to hire me and just needed his boss to approve it. His boss left early for Xmas vacation. When he returned there was a hiring freeze because the DotCom bust was just getting started and a few weeks later I lost my temp job, too.

Another time, a hiring manager wanted to hire me but his boss was supposed to be a part of the original interview but got called away on business. So they asked me back for a second interview so he could meet me. I didn’t stray from my original interview but for whatever his reasoning was, I didn’t get the job.

Shit happens. Don’t worry about. And enjoy your time with your sister!

To be fair, I also wouldn’t want to work somewhere that would let the forest burn down to keep an appointment with a tree—this kind of sounds like some sort of emergency popped up.
