Timing tensioners are the culpruit. they fail, engine is borked.
They dont even have an inspection interval in the car’s manual, but in my case the tensioner ratchets out to add tension, but can fail and release tension or overextend and rub in inner plate putting metal shards in the pan.

I work at a Skoda/Audi dealer so I want to see the part number to see which other ve group cars will suffer the same problem

Its the primary tensioner on the timing chain.
Its affecting the ea888 CCTA/CAEB upto about mid 2012.
