My sister was involved in an accident yesterday. 5 teens in this car, everyone had seatbelts and everyone walked away.
On the other side of that guard rail is a 50~ foot cliff. Be careful out there everyone, this could have easily been a real shitty weekend.

Glad everyone is ok.
I think one of the first responders might have stolen her cat and resonator though.

Looks about as wet as the back roads I was tearing up on Saturday, good that everyone is ok.

I’ve torn up some wet roads (and tracks) but, teenage drivers don’t have the experience and having more people in the car just makes things harder.

Too fast, not enough brake on wet roads.

You sure the crash didn’t just shake the exhaust off its mounting hooks?
Glad everyone is OK.

A severe enough crash could have conceivably both severed them, while simultaneously replacing them with standard exhaust tubing that just happened to be lying on the ground... I guess.
Or a lot has changed on Civic exhausts since 2000, when I last worked on one. Either one is plausible.

They’re going to be sore in the morning, but glad to hear that is the worst of it. Understeer?

Wasn’t this generation of Civic extremely prone to understeer? Lots of extra weight + wet roads + excessive speed = the front end just plowed right into that bank. She might have been going a speed similar to what she normally does on that stretch, but add in the extra weight from the passengers, maybe the road was a little more slick... Either way, the moral is be careful out there and don’t get complacent!

Probably this, she wasn’t driving but it’ll be a wake up call. I will be heavily advocating the BMW CCA defensive driving school.

My 03 Civic (hated that car) broke the back loose on wet a couple times and I sorta remember reading about that in a review.
Also had a 93 Civic; Many years ago on a rainy morning I accidentally did a 540 on lake shore drive on the S-curve in front of the Drake hotel. In morning heavy traffic I spun it from the left lane to the right shoulder facing the wrong way WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING.

Yes. I just can’t believe how easy it is to get a driver’s license in this country... I’m a gun owner and a car owner, and I think both are deadly weapons that are way too accessible to irresponsible and untrained people.

Tire Rack Street Survival (which is sponsored by BMW CCA) has saved me from at least 3 or 4 accidents in the 5 years since I did it. Totally worth.

I tell everyone I meet that the best thing I did for my street driving was track days. A safe place for you to figure out what happens when the situation goes pear shaped, and do it enough times and you learn how to properly react.

Glad everyone walked away. I’ve been there. Icy roads, too young to know any better, flipped car. Subaru G Wagon, my first car. Saved my butt.

5 teens in this car,
I think I see a big part of the problem.
That’s not even allowed in MI when you first get your license.

I’ve been in six car wrecks during the last fifty-two years. In two of them I didn’t have a seat belt on and I spent days in the hospital; the other four I did have a seat belt on and I never got anything worse than shook up and once a bruise on my shoulder. “Anec-data” for sure, but I’m sold anyway.

I just put shoulder (3-point) belts in my 1961 truck; it came with no seat belts at all, and I threw some lap belts in it at first, just for
something.
But I feel much better driving it now. I am very defensive in it, but things can happen.
