I’m pretty upset right now. Only hours after having my new rims put on, I have some pot hole related damage. Any advice? Also, the tire is somewhat cut, but nothing serious.
I feel so ill.
I spent the last how many hours working to try and make sure I can attend PNW Oppo cruise in the St.
Had it checked, the cut is indeed minor and was repaired. I also painted the rim. Looks better, but I know it is still there.

This looks like a leave it and learn kinda scar. You can take the tire off and sand and paint to get it a little nicer if you want.

Honestly, it was just really bad luck. But they’re literally like 3 hours old on the car. It just makes me want to cry like a little girl.
First time this has ever happened to me.

Oh, that’s some bad luck! No road hazard guarantee/warranty from the tire retailer?
Worth an icbc claim?
Sidewall damage worries me, especially on something that is going to be pitched into corners at speed.

I know the feeling. There are shops that do rim repair. I think you could get that to where it is near invisible.
I’m not sure I agree about the tire cut not being serious. Keep a close eye on it for bulges.

First call the town and tell them about the pothole so nobody else has such horrible luck.
I hate to say it, but I would trash that tire.

Can you go back to the tire shop and express lots of righteous indignation about the damaged wheels and tires they sold you, and hope they eat it?
Either way, keep a close eye on it and if it starts to bubble, 86 it asap.

Reminds me of my 4 day old windsheild getting a rock chip and cracking. If it were me I would
take a crap and throw it at someone from City Hall
er, get some touch up and put a dab on there so it doesn’t drive me crazy..

Two words: black sharpie
Also you could move that wheel to the passenger side (if it isn’t already) so you don’t dwell on it.
As for the tire........ I’d have a trusted tire shop make the call. Tires can take a lot of abuse, but I think an expert should make the call.

A wheel shop should be able to clean up that ding so that it is much less noticeable for pretty cheap. Is it still holding air? Personally I’d get it replaced even if it is. Maybe worth a call to Bridgestone - they aren’t obliged to do anything but if you tire is literally just mounted they might feel bad and toss you a free tire. This is on a FiST right? I can’t imagine that size of tire is too rare or expensive for them to worry too much about giving one away.

Wheel should be pretty easy to sand and paint.
I would suggest a new tire. If the tires are new, just replace one side, if they are somewhat worn, you’ll need a new pair.

Sidewalls are pretty thick. Depending on just how deep it actually is, the tire might still be safe for regular daily driver duties, but I would NOT trust it for hard autocrossing/track use.

Would it be worth going through your insurance deductible/driving record wise? I would think they will go after the city or whoever owns the roads and it shouldn’t mess up your insurance. I could be completely wrong though.

Not sure it’ll help you feel any better but at least you didn’t buy some expensive superperformance rims. I had a similar thing not long after getting my rims installed too, except I had to drive with a flat for 20 miles on terrible roads. Point being i was glad my wheels didn’t cost a fortune.
Also what do they look like?

Once bent a 14" stock Hyundai Steelie, the sidewall apparently didn’t help much (and those rims were not very strong)

Can you see belts or cords behind that bit of rubber? If yes, then replace. If no, then it’s purely cosmetic.

Hey! I totally feel your pain. I’ve been there and it hurts right?!
Here is some damage I got on 72nd Ave just past Crush Cres. here in Langley.
Here are the guys that fixed it. Bridgeport Rd in Richmond. Drop off the car or take your wheel there and just drop off the wheel. Call the Shop # for best service.
Here is the after:
Good as new for about $200.00 each.
10x cheaper than new wheels. You’ll feel so much better knowing it can be fixed like new and after you do it as huge sense of relief.

:( Balls. I’m pretty sure three of my wheels are bent right now because it feels like my car’s going to shake itself apart on the freeway. It happened a street over from my new place and when I reached out to the City of Austin about the construction plate being super bendy in a dark section of road (the likely culprit for the last bent wheel), they said that there’s some garbage state rule that prevents cities for being held liable for their own trash construction work.
Texas! We live in hell, everybody. That’s Texas in a nutshell if I ever saw it. Protect The Man at all costs, and screw the little person whenever possible.
I really just want to give up and get new rimzzzz to replace these borked OEM ones, but I’m so broke it’s not even funny. Thanks for nothing, butthole state. Ugh.
ETA
: It’s apparently the Texas Tort Claim Act which prevents the city from—heaven forbid—taking responsibility for screwing up the roads and the cars that accidentally drive on the wrong spots on said roads. I just looked up the letter again. The whole ordeal makes me sick to my stomach because if I claim it on my insurance to try and get my wheel(s) fixed, I’m still out the deductible and they assign the blame to me even though I was just driving down the road. Everything is trash, and I guess I need to look up freelance side gigs again. Ugh^2.

The duplicolor black works great at covering the rash. I got a set of nice satin black powder coated wheels for our old Q7 and they got pretty tasked up over the years, but the gloss black duplicolor pen with paint on one end and topcoat on the other worked out perfect if I just left it with the black paint coat, no gloss topcoat. From a few feet they looked fine.
It does suck though, but look at it this way, you got the first scuff out of the way. Maybe move the tire and wheel to the passenger rear, on case it does blow. Then you won’t be fighting with a driving/steering wheel. And you don’t have to look at it every day.

Glad you made out reasonably ok in the end, but still sorry to see it happen to you.
This may or may not help, and in fact might not even be true, but I was told that if you call and report that your vehicle was damaged by a road imperfection and someone else has aready called to report that same road imperfection, the city will reimburse you for damages. Again, no idea if true, but was what I have been told.

Yeah, I had those evil lane marker domes things gouge two of my shiny new rims, and I had to eat the deductible to replace them. It’s just my dumb fault for driving wrong, not that there shouldn’t be 8 inch concrete domes sticking up in the middle of a road or anything. But that’s Texas. It never even occurred to me to call the City. I just assumed they’d laugh at me. Guess I’m already beaten down.

Looks good after the paint. Seriously look up rim repair techs in your area. For a reasonable amount, they may be able to make that scar all but disappear, from both your rim and your heart.
